POSITION SUMMARY: The Student Services Supervisor provides leadership in developing and supporting the division's Student Services department including special education K-12 programming and services. The Supervisor will also support Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) including the transition between Part C to Part B. Responsibilities include supervision of staff including related service providers (Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Hearing Impaired, etc.), Behavior Support Staff, Medicaid billing and additional student services team members.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possess or qualify for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional license with endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12. Endorsement in special education (K-12 or ECSE) is strongly preferred. Related degrees/endorsements may be considered.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a teacher in a public school setting with demonstrated successful outcomes for students.
  • Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Experience working with children with diverse learning and support needs.
  • Familiarity with equity and inclusion frameworks. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Respects the worth, dignity and individual differences of others.
  • Experience coaching and developing school staff in all areas of student support needs including inclusive special education.
  • Has knowledge of special education law including IDEA, Virginia Regulations and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present to diverse audiences to foster professional relationships and express and/or exchange ideas.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of a variety of office/instructional equipment and technology with experience using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and email.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and the community.


  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provides student services support including special education assistance in a collaborative and child centered manner regarding programming/regulations to teachers, service providers, administrators and behavior support staff.
  • Reviews IEPs for legal compliance, appropriate educational programming and oversees the implementation of those IEPs for all students in buildings assigned.
  • Supervises related service providers and collaborates with the Shenandoah Valley Regional Program.
  • Identifies and manages external vendors and contracted service providers.
  • Supports inclusive special education programming and staff.
  • Provides assistance to multidisciplinary teams which determine special education eligibility, infant toddler transition and educational programming for students with disabilities..
  • Provides in service training and ongoing coaching to empower staff and build teacher capacity in the area of student services, special education and inclusive practices.
  • Serves as a resource to IEP teams, teachers, administrators, families, and students.
  • Assists in the development and delivery of professional learning opportunities for student support staff.
  • Coordinates district wide student support meetings and programming as needed.
  • Coordinates student support intern and practicum placements and maintains university partnerships.
  • Serve on special committees and complete special projects as assigned.
  • Collaborates with truancy specialists to coordinate support services.
  • Complete staff evaluations as assigned.
  • Takes all industry standard precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains appropriate state licensure; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date.
  • Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
  • Actively participates in and attends all required meetings.
  • Maintains confidentiality when appropriate.
  • Complies with and supports school division policies, regulations, procedures, and the HCPS Strategic Plan.
  • Effectively performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and Chief Officer for Student Support.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Light work, lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Regular travel throughout the school and effectively interact with students, staff, and the school community. Regular contact with staff members is required. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

    EVALUATION:

    Performance will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of administrative or licensed personnel.
