Job Description*The Opportunity:*
The Department of Security and Emergency Services at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide, College of Arts and Sciences, invites candidates to apply for a full time, non-tenure track Assistant Professor of the Practice position in Security Studies and International Affairs. The successful candidate will contribute to our Homeland Security BS program, MS Human Security and Resilience, and other courses in the department through teaching and service. The position is fully remote. Online teaching experience is preferred.
Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses that relate to homeland security, human resilience, international affairs and global conflict and disasters. Service responsibilities include activities such as participation in university work at the departmental, college, and university level. An important service aspect for this position will be engaging in student recruitment, and leveraging and building relationships and establishing partnerships with relevant external organizations and agencies, such as government, NGOs, and industry. The position begins August 1, 2023, and is eligible for annual renewal options.
Qualifications*Minimum Qualifications: *

* An earned terminal degree in International Affairs, Law, Political Science, Public Policy, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Geography, Homeland Security, or related discipline.

* Demonstrated commitment to excellence and innovation in teaching

*Preferred Qualifications:*

* Ph.D. in a relevant discipline

* Practical experience in government, non-government organizations, humanitarian work, peacekeeping or conflict mediation, security, or related private industry is strongly preferred.

* Experience or background in aviation or aviation security/emergency management

* Online teaching experience

The Master of Science in Human Security & Resilience offers interdisciplinary approaches to the understanding of global affairs and community resilience. These concepts focus on the security of populations (human security) and their ability to withstand and recover from a wide array of internal and external shocks (resilience), ranging from extreme weather to terrorism and armed conflict. Students are often working professionals who care about the good of humanity, seek solutions to ensure safety after disasters, and help identify, mitigate, and prevent future incidences.
