CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

Student Services for Athletes (SSA) promotes student-athlete success by offering a broad array of services that assist with their academic, personal, and postgraduate preparation. The program provides critical student services, including counseling/advising, tutoring, and academic assistance to student-athletes. As a part of the Student-Athlete Success Team, SSA also helps integrate student-athletes' academic and social experiences and foster their academic, career, and personal development. In addition, as a member of the Division of Student Life (DSL), SSA embraces the mission and values of the division and works closely with the Department of Athletics, Community, and Campus Recreation. (UD Athletics) in upholding and embracing their departmental mission of 'Achieving Excellence Together'. Under the direction of the Associate Director, Student-Athlete Career Readiness (Associate Director), the Career Readiness Specialist will help coordinate comprehensive career and postgraduate success initiatives.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Career Readiness Coordination & Programming
  • Collaborate with Athletics Development staff and UD Career Center (UDCC) staff to cultivate and manage relationships with alums, parents, donors, and employers seeking to recruit student-athletes for internships and jobs.
  • Under the direction of the Associate Director, co-design and implement collaborative and scalable programs and engagement strategies connecting student-athletes to employers, alums, donors, and professionals offering internships, job shadowing, mentorship, and advice.
  • Integrate life design and career advising into SSA advising, operations, and career readiness education and programming into the BLUE program.
  • Build and utilize knowledge and expertise in Learning Management Systems such as CANVAS to lead courses and develop career content and assignments.
  • Support NIL educational programming for student-athletes and external constituents.
  • Ensure the delivery of antiracist, culturally responsive, and equity-centered programming and initiatives to meet the diverse needs of historically racially marginalized communities, LGBTQ+, veterans, limited income, and first-generation students.
  • Adhere to all institution, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations
  • Perform other department-wide student-athlete support services as assigned.

Engagement & Communications
  • Engage in regular strategy and operational meetings with SSA, UD Athletics staff and coaches, DSL, and the UDCC.
  • Coach and advise student-athletes in 1:1 and group settings. Partner with UD Athletics Development & Alumni Relations and coaches on coordinated alum engagement initiatives for a portfolio of teams
  • Collaborate with teams, UD colleges, and administrative units to support student-athletes career development.
  • Actively build relationships with recruiters, professionals, alums, administrators, and staff.
  • Manage and participate in campus-based, local, regional, and national employer and alumni career engagement events such as networking receptions, recruiting events, career fairs, etc.
  • Stay informed and participate in the Career Center's career and employer development programs.
  • Utilize UD Athletics alums, parent, and constituent relations tracking systems to support and manage programming and engagement efforts.
  • Meet with prospective student-athletes and their families during official and unofficial campus visits to discuss the goals, vision, expectations, and philosophy of student-athlete career readiness initiatives and the support available to them from UD
  • Represent SSA and UD Athletics as a student-athlete career expert through social media, professional associations, and conferences.
  • Help develop ongoing marketing strategies and materials, which includes composing content and coordinating the timing of communications to alums, employers, as well as coaches, and student-athletes.
  • Support a coordinated effort of marketing and promotion of student-athlete success through social media, UDaily, and Athletics marketing and advertising channels to raise the profile and celebrate student-athlete achievements and accomplishments.
  • Contribute to annual Family Newsletters and regular SAAC Newsletters with career statistics, resources, and announcements.

Research & Assessment
  • Track student-athlete job, graduate school, and internship outcomes and overall career engagement data, and regularly synthesize and communicate that information.
  • Identify and report key performance indicators (KPIs) for employer and alumni engagement, career programming, and student-athlete career engagement and success.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of critical national, regional, and local trends and best practices in career development, recruiting, and alumni engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • An understanding and appreciation of the needs of athletes on a college campus. Experience working with student athletes is preferred.
  • Relevant project and program management experience leading to quantifiable results and goal attainment.
  • Ability to establish, maintain and enhance effective and productive relationships with external and internal key stakeholders, including employers and alums.
  • Experience working with diverse populations; demonstrated professionalism and cultural humility.
  • Ability and proven track record in meeting goals dependent upon internal and external partnerships.
  • Ability to analyze and utilize data, assessment tools, and career information, and analyze and use employment and higher education trends.
  • Demonstrated effective collaboration, presentation, reporting, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience using a social justice lens in planning and problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with rules and regulations governing intercollegiate athletics (NCAA Commitment to students and maintaining an inviting, inclusive, and equitable office ethos and environment.
  • Effective team builder and group leader.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and act with discretion.
  • Ability to take risks, assess and shift priorities and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to utilize CRM platforms, MS office suite, web editing, and social media technologies for marketing, analysis, and work product.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including frequent evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
