Job Title: Assistant Professor -Political Science & International Relations (Tenure-Track)

Reporting Structure: Department Chair

Division: College of Arts and Humanities

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Teach classes in political science and social science department sharing concepts, principles, and theories
  • Prepare course materials such as syllabi, lecture notes, homework assignments, exams, or other instructional materials
  • Conduct research and publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals or other scholarly outlets
  • Advise students on their coursework and on long-term goals such as careers and graduate school applications
  • Develop new courses and update existing course material to meet changing student needs
  • Participate in academic conferences or workshops to present research results or collaborate with other professors on research projects
  • Advise students on academic issues such as choosing courses that will fulfill degree requirements or identifying appropriate academic advisors
  • Prepare and administer examinations, grading papers and transcripts, and provide feedback to students on their performance
  • Conduct research on current topics in the discipline of political science
  • Be prepared to sit on university-level committees as well as serve as advisor for student organizations

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Must be able to communicate complex political theories and ideas to students in a way that is easy to understand.
  • Must also be able to communicate with students in a way that is engaging and encourages active learning.
  • Be familiar with the research methods used in their field.
  • Understand the different types of research methods, conduct research and interpret research results. Instruct their students on how to conduct research.
  • Analyze information and form conclusions.
  • Use critical thinking to interpret data and research, develop lesson plans and evaluate current political events.
  • Public speaking

Education and Experience:
  • A minimum of a master's degree in political science or related field (instructor level)

Preferred Skills, Experience and Education:
  • Ph.D. or other doctoral degree in Political Science or closely related degree

Physical Requirements:
  • Work in academic settings, such as colleges and universities.
  • Work a standard 40-hour workweek, may spend additional time preparing lectures and course materials, meeting with students, and conducting research.
  • May be required to publish scholarly articles and books to maintain or improve their status within the academic community.
