Job Description:

The Institute of International Education (IIE) is seeking a current student for a summer Thomas S. Johnson internship opportunity. The internships, established in honor of Thomas S. Johnson, Chairman Emeritus of IIE’s Board of Trustees, are designed to expose students to the day-to-day operations of a leading international education and exchange not-for-profit that values diversity equity and inclusion. IIE internships allow students to gain insight into the field of international education, learn about career opportunities and establish a network.

The internship opportunity is within The Language Flagship program, which provides US undergraduates with opportunities to learn professional-level Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, or Russian, as well as advanced culture skills. Coming from any major, students obtain advanced language at their home university before spending a capstone year abroad to achieve superior language and culture abilities. The Flagship intern will have the opportunity to work closely with the program team, communications manager, as well as application/selection specialists to learn about the lifecycle of the Flagship program. The intern work with a designated supervisor on assigned projects for the duration of the internship and complete the internship with a final project presentation. 

Essential Functions:

Work closely with the Flagship team on programmatic projects such as alumni engagement, Capstone application improvement, university and national website review, and data management.

Lead brainstorming of student-facing and alumni engagement activities in consultation with Flagship team and hired consultants.

Analyzing data and creating one-page summary handouts for distribution on website and to program stakeholders.

Represent The Language Flagship at virtual events, with potential for in-person local events.

Internship period:

Summer internships will take place between late May 2023 and early August 2023.

Internships may be 8-10 weeks in duration up to 35 hours per week with core working hours 9am – 5pm EST but subject to flexibility.

Pay rate:

$17.00 per hour.

Job Requirements:

Submission of a resume and a cover letter are required to be considered for this role.

Educational Requirement:

A multidisciplinary undergraduate/graduate student matriculated at an accredited college or university.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

An interest in exploring the field of international education and exchange.

Good communication skills.

Attention to detail.

Proficient in Microsoft office suite, especially Excel.

Experience with outreach and recruitment a plus.

Experience with data analysis and/or data visualization a plus.

Work Conditions & Physical Demands:

Essential functions are performed in a general office setting with low noise. Job demands may require long periods of sitting; telephone work and/or computer work, as well as interactions with other team members and external stakeholders.
