The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary
The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) at Columbia Business School (CBS) supports the academic and community experience for 1600 full-time MBA students. The Office of Student Affairs is committed to creating an inclusive environment in which all students feel a sense of belonging, agency and partnership in co-creating their optimal MBA experience. The Office of Student Affairs is composed of two teams that work collaboratively to enhance the MBA experience: Academics and Advising, and Student Life and Engagement.
Reporting to the Director of Academic Affairs, the Senior Associate Director plays a critical role in strategically managing the holistic success of full-time MBA students at Columbia Business School by creating a collaborative, supportive, respectful, and solutions-oriented partnership between students and academic advisers. The Senior Associate Director is responsible for advising a cohort of full-time MBA students and serves as a key collaborator within the Office of Student Affairs partnering with the Student Life and Engagement team on various student and staff facing initiatives. This individual represents OSA in interdepartmental meetings at the Business School and throughout the University. The Senior Associate Director will supervise one or more Assistant Directors.
Responsibilities

* As a member of the Advising and Academic Success team, the Senior Associate Director independently manages the Academic Advising Program for MBA students by directly advising assigned clusters of new and continuing students. The Senior Associate Director will provide counseling and advisement regarding academic performance, course selection, registration, and degree requirements as well as partner with appropriate team members across Academics, Student Life & Engagement, Centers and Programs, and serve on various committees where applicable. Provides updates and reporting to senior management on a weekly basis.
* Serve as a case manager for students in crisis in partnership with the Director of Academic Affairs and Associate Dean. Communicate with faculty and create tailored student success plans for students in distress that promote degree completion. Refer students to University resources where appropriate and manage communication between other offices and team members. Build, establish, and maintain relationships with the Office of Disability Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Columbia Health, Gender-Based Misconduct, EOAA, Title IX and other key stakeholders.
* Supervise an Assistant Director of Academic Success focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives. Provide constructive feedback and guide professional development opportunities for growth and performance management.
* Independently manage the Advising Team’s data and technology platforms. Oversee the advising and tutoring platform (EAB Starfish). Develop and analyze reports regarding academic progress - for administrators and advisors. Develop and create other data projects as assigned by Director of Academics or Dean of Students.
* Work to review and enhance operational efficiencies within the Academic Advising team by identifying strategies to leverage technology that may play a role in expanding our reach throughout the school. Work with peer schools to benchmark and share best practices for engaging and expanding the reach of the advising team to increase touchpoints for all students in the community. Serves as the point of contact for strategic projects and initiatives that automate processes, working closely with the Director of Academic Affairs.
* Analyze institutional data to identify gaps in student success and design strategic academic interventions to enhance the student academic experience. Annually assess, evaluate and update policies to align with strategic initiatives and in consideration of longitudinal data collection.
* Oversee Peer Tutoring Program which includes, but is not limited to, hiring student tutors each semester and facilitate training with best practices. Serve as the point-person for tutors and students seeking tutoring. Serve as liaison to human resources regarding tutor hiring and payment.
* Manage the academic graduation award process which includes, but is not limited to working closely with faculty, stakeholders and partner offices as well as student recipients to ensure recipients are identified and notified for all awards and prizes are processed accurately.
* Develop and maintain strong partnerships with stakeholders throughout the school and University including Admissions, Financial Aid, centers and programs, the Career Management Center, and the Samberg Institute for Teaching Excellence.
* Attend academic Orientation sessions and provide an introduction presentation about academic services. Participate in information sessions and tabling for current and prospective students. Works to review sessions and provide recommendations on improvements.
* Work on strategic projects and other duties as assigned by the Director and Associate Dean.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. Minimum 4-6 years related experience required, preferably in higher education advising or administration.
The incumbent must have strong interpersonal skills and fluency in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel. Experience in project management and leading teams necessary. Absolute attention to detail is required. Candidate must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and projects in a high-volume service-oriented environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are also necessary. The ability to exercise discretion and judgment in confidential matters is required. The candidate must be a proven team player, able to work cooperatively in small groups or independently with minimal supervision required; demonstrates the ability to build and establish relationships with a diverse student body, faculty, and administrators. Openness to feedback while maintaining growth, learning, and change-positive mindset is a must. Be pro-active with excellent organizational and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Background in Counseling, Advisement, Higher Education Administration, and/or MBA programs desired.
