Position Summary The Director of Student Affairs and Academic Success (DSAAS) will promote the academic success of Fordham Law students in all cycles of the student experience, from matriculation, throughout law school, and through the bar exam. The two major pillars of responsibility for this position will be 1) to manage the well-established upper-level Academic Success Program (ASP) in collaboration with the Associate Director of Student Affairs; and 2) to manage, implement and enhance the bar preparedness programs and for Fordham’s law students.

This position presents an opportunity to reconceptualize the academic skills/support program for upper-level students as part of a collaborative team that partners on the many projects designed to support our student population. This position will report to the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs & Diversity and will provide general student support as a member of the Office of Student Affairs team.

Essential Functions

Upper Level Academic Success Program

• Provides academic and non-academic counseling to students as part of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) team mandate and advises students on all aspects of their Fordham Law education;

• Oversees the Mandatory Academic Program (MAP) and ensures students who fall within the program criteria adhere to the program requirements;

• Provides individual academic support and advising to students experiencing academic difficulty and develops a comprehensive communication strategy for informing students about academic success resources;

• Collaborates with the Associate Director of Student Affairs, faculty and the administrators of the legal writing programs to develop programming and provides resources for the general student body;

• Works to identify and to support students experiencing academic difficulty or who may be at risk;

• Creates and delivers programs on academic planning including workshops, peer support programs, and individual counseling;

• Works individually with targeted students to provide additional academic support during law school and through the bar exam, including providing individualized counseling and study plans, advice on course selection or decisions relating to co-curricular activities, and any other academic or community building concerns that students may have relating to their success in law school.

Bar Preparedness Responsibilities

• Manages Fordham’s bar preparation programs which involves developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive programming for students as they prepare to sit for the bar exam;

• Develops and enhances school-wide bar support initiatives to guide students throughout their law school education;

• Provides post-graduate bar support and programming, which includes supplemental workshops and one-on-one meetings with graduates as necessary;

• Analyzes program effectiveness and make strategic recommendations for the development of the current and future programming;

• Researches and implements current best practices for fostering academic success skills and bar exam success and the development of data-driven mechanisms for evaluating the academic success of students and bar program goals;

• Oversees, monitors, and develops bar exam diagnostics and post-graduation bar exam workshops and protocols and bar exam orientation programs and will provide ongoing bar exam support throughout the summer;

• Tracks and analyzes student performance through data collection to evaluate the efficacy of bar programming and will use statistical analysis of data to work with the long-range planning committee and the administration to develop new initiatives essential for all components of the bar exam;

• Provides leadership in adapting our curriculum and academic success initiatives in anticipation of the NextGen bar exam rollout in 2026.

General Responsibilities

• Serves as a member of the Student Affairs Office team and will provide general support to the office as designated by the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs & Diversity.

Additional Functions

Required Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school is required

• Bar licensure (active or inactive) in a U.S. jurisdiction is required

• Minimum of 3 years of prior experience in academic support and bar support is required

• Demonstrated commitment to working with students

• Good interpersonal skills and a commitment to student success are required

• Familiarity with the relevant ABA standards is required

• Ability to design, implement, and manage innovative programs

• Advanced communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population of students,

• faculty, staff, and administrators

• Working knowledge of Microsoft apps, Excel, Word, etc.

• May need to work evenings and weekends during peak times

• Some amount of hybrid/teleworking may be permitted, pending supervisor approval

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching academic and bar success courses, such as 1L academic skills, MPT courses, and bar preparation courses (or highly comparable environments)

• Knowledge of the NextGen bar exam

• Experience interpreting and using student success data to drive decision-making

Minimum Starting Salary $88,000

Maximum Starting Salary $110,000

Note Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
