USC's Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts & Sciences Department of Economics is seeking a Student Services Advisor II to join its team. In their advising role, the Student Services Advisor II is committed to the overall success of assigned undergraduate students majoring and minoring in Economics. Specifically the Student Services Advisor II helps students understand degree requirements; develop, cultivate, and transform academic goals and educational plans; understand academic policies and procedures; select additional majors and minors; explore curricular and co-curricular opportunities (i.e., research, study abroad, service learning, etc.); integrate career development opportunities, address concerns and challenges that impact academic success; connect with faculty members and university resources.

Additionally, this senior level advisor will help provide support and guidance to new advisors while also supporting the needs of the Department of Economics.

Duties for this position may include:
  • Provide academic advising for undergraduate students. Specifically advise students on degree requirements, curriculum, course selection, transfer credit evaluation, and degree related opportunities (i.e. research, study abroad, internships, etc.)
  • Aide in the retention and graduation of major students through effective advisement practices and preparing course plans (semester and yearly)
  • Develop and maintain expertise on university related policies and procedures pertaining to curriculum, transfer credit, degree requirements, course evaluations, petitions, and other student services
  • Monitor student performance, degree progress, and records
  • Evaluate student problems (academic, personal, or administrative) and refer students to the appropriate student support services. Liaise with other offices on behalf of students to facilitate problem resolution
  • Stay abreast on major curriculum, course offerings, and department related opportunities
  • Work with at-risk students
  • Develop and maintain relationships with department faculty and administration
  • Interface with parents as needed and provide resources to facilitate problem resolution
  • Represent department at all new student related events, including welcome events and new student orientation
  • Maintain professional knowledge through participation in associations, committees, workshops, and other means of networking
  • Assist with planning various academic and co-curricular programs
  • Mentor and train entry level academic advisors in the department
  • Prepare department related reports pertaining to retention and graduation

Successful candidates will have strong communication and organization skills, as well as have demonstrated a genuine interest academic advising and commitment to student advocacy.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree. Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
  • Minimum of 3 years experience providing academic advising in a higher education setting
  • Minimum Field of Expertise: Student personnel administration, academic advising

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling or Related field
  • Knowledge of USC programs, services and software
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment
  • Possess the flexibility in the face of changing priorities

Hourly range: The hourly rate range for this position is $34 - $37.
