The Department of Social Science at Hampton University, which houses the BA in Political Science, BA in History, BA in International Studies, BA in Sociology, BS in Criminal Justice degrees, as well as a Pre-Law Program, is seeking to fill an Assistant Professor position in International Studies or Political Science with a focus in International Affairs beginning Fall 2022.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to teach a variety of International courses such as International Political Theory, International Law, International Affairs, Contemporary Issues in International Affairs, International Organizations, World Affairs, general courses in world civilization, and other like courses that serves the university. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to advise International Studies and Political Science majors and hold office hours. Moreover, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the scholarly advancement of the department through a productive research agenda that includes grantsmanship. Furthermore, the successful candidate should demonstrate dedication to the progress of the Social Science Department, the School of Liberal Arts and Education, and to the University as a whole, through service activities.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have earned a doctorate in International Studies or Political Science with a focus in International Affairs from an accredited university. Experience in and evidence of successful teaching in a university setting is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in research and grantsmanship. Although there is an expectation of hiring at the Assistant Professor rank, we will consider filling the position at a higher rank depending upon the qualifications of the applicant. Rank and compensation are commensurate with credentials and experience.
