Job Purpose

The International and Immigrant Student Services Coordinator II is responsible for the administration, management, and coordination of the international and immigrant student programs and services at all locations of Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC). This position also serves as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and is responsible for the management of and reporting to the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) under the Department of Homeland Security regulations.

This position ensures the high-quality execution and administration of customer service, business processes, and project management with colleagues across the College to support KCKCC's mission and strategic priorities related to enrollment management and student success.

Position Description
  • Serve as the KCKCC's Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) with the Department of Homeland Security's Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). This includes but is not limited to issuing immigration documents and granting non-immigrant student benefits to students in F-1 or M-1 visa status; managing and ensuring KCKCC's compliance with Title VIII; providing thorough information on immigration regulations and procedures to students, faculty, and staff; and interpretation of U.S. immigration policy to the campus community.
  • Responsible for the management of KCKCC's international student application for admissions processes. This includes, but is not limited to, serving as a primary point of contact for prospective international students, faculty, staff, and the community regarding the international student admission process and evaluating required documentation such as financial statements and educational credentials.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for prospective students on special visas, permanent or pending residents, asylee refugees, and undocumented students. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting presentations, meeting with educational partners to promote KCKCC, participating in recruitment fairs, managing student inquiries, and arranging tours for prospective students and community groups.
  • In collaboration with college partners, responsible for the development, execution, and evaluation of a new student orientation for international and immigrant students that promotes persistence, support, and intercultural awareness of international and immigrant students
  • Responsible for collaborating with college partners and developing programs and services that support the completion, success, and integration of international and immigrant students at KCKCC.
  • Assists with developing and updating policies and facilitates training and information sessions on regulatory topics such as employment and practical training, travel and re-entry, maintenance of non-immigrant status, and other related to high-impact practice for international and immigrant student services.
  • As assigned, liaison with national, regional, state, and local organizations promoting best international and immigrant student services practices to the College community.
  • Responsible for collaborating with appropriate College partners to ensure adequate selection, administration, and reporting of the College's sponsored international student health insurance plan.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Admissions and Recruitment and the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, consistent with the College's strategic priorities and goals.

  • Must demonstrate understanding of the role of international and immigrant student programs, services, and compliance at the community college level.
  • The capacity to represent the College at local agencies/organizations activities and group meetings.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to and ability to work with a diverse student, faculty, and staff population.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to inclusive practices that promote social justice and equity.
  • High energy, self-starter who can work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships and establish credibility with all levels of students, faculty, and staff in the organization and community partners.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Ability to manage several projects with multiple deadlines simultaneously.

Position Qualifications and/or Education

Minimum Qualifications and/or Education
  • Master's degree in education, counseling, student development, social work, or a related field OR
  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, student development, social work, or a related field AND two (2) years of experience working in postsecondary international student services.
  • Be eligible to serve as Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) according to the Department of Homeland Security Rules and Regulations.

Preferred Qualifications and/or Education
  • Demonstrated previous experience as a Primary Designated School Official (PDSO).
  • Demonstrated previous experience working in post-secondary international student programs and services.
  • Experience working within a community or two-year college setting.
  • Experience with a higher education institution working with a student population with a highly diverse, first-generation, and financially fragile population.
  • Multilingual writing and speaking proficiency.

Work Schedule

Assigned 40-hour work week during Monday - Friday 8:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M. Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
