Position Overview

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Transfer Recruitment/Admission Counselor.

This position contributes to increasing the population of transfer-ready admitted and enrolled undergraduate students through use of the of following methods: identifying and building a diverse pool of prospective students within an assigned recruitment territory, developing a data-driven recruitment plan, coordinating travel schedules, and maintaining an aggressive communication campaign with prospective students and families. This individual will assist with college ready initiatives aimed at increasing prospective student engagement and enrollment. The Transfer Admissions Counselor is responsible for implementing the enrollment strategies that will yield the desired individual enrollment goals. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a related field and one year of college readiness, student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Considerable knowledge of college readiness standards and initiatives.
  • Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate)
  • Ability to keep complex records; to assemble and organize data of complex nature, and to prepare and submit reports in acceptable formats.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in related field.
  • Experience working in a university admissions department or similar higher education work experience.
  • Strong sales background and interpersonal skills preferred, background in customer service, marketing, and higher education is beneficial.
  • Communication skills and sensitivity to issues related to the retention and recruitment of a diverse student body.
  • Evidence of successful work with a diverse range of students, including populations typically underrepresented in higher education (e.g. students of color, first-generation college students, LGBTQ students, students with disabilities, and students from lower SES backgrounds).
  • Ability to multitask in a busy office environment with multiple interruptions, including efficiently managing a high volume of emails and phone calls and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Program and territory management experience.
  • Experience utilizing innovative technology such as a CRM solution is preferred.
  • Familiarity with database systems such as Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft, or some other type of student information database product utilized by institutions of higher learning is preferred.
  • Previous public speaking and presentation experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and video conferencing platforms (Zoom, MS Teams).
  • Experience utilizing Perceptive Content imaging software.
  • Experience with communication campaigns (social media, texting and direct mail among others).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Familiarity with the UNT Dallas campus, its historical landmarks, and points of interest and location of both academic and non-academic offices.

Job Duties

o

Plans, implements, and assesses comprehensive data-driven student recruitment strategies and programs, including campus visits and presentations, which improve student engagement and yield to align with best practices. Provides general knowledge about admissions, Texas Success Initiative (TSI), financial aid, scholarships, support services, advising/registration, housing and orientation. Provides pre-advising for prospective transfer students utilizing unofficial transcript evaluations and/or online transfer credit evaluation technology.

o

Executes exceptional customer service through consistent follow-up (phone calls and all correspondence) with prospective students and their families, current and existing school partnerships to provide student enrollment support and troubleshoot enrollment barriers. Work directly with applicants to resolve issues which may arise during the application and admission process such as complaints and appeals of admissions denials.

o

Develop and implement a communication plan involving all constituents central to recruiting students to the University including academic advising, student solutions, financial aid, and other departments. Communicate effectively and efficiently with prospective students and college advisors, in person, phone, email, text messaging, printed media, CRM, and virtual media platforms in order to establish a relationship between the college advisor/counselor, prospective student, and UNT Dallas.

Performs data entry via the university's CRM and other databases relevant to student records for accurate record-keeping of all recruitment activity to ensure department goals are met and compliance with records management, privacy, and office procedures.

o

Increase public awareness of UNT Dallas while establishing community contacts in assigned territory. Represent the Office of Admissions to prospective students, community college advisors, high school counselors, and University alumni in a public speaking capacity.

o

Contributes to on-campus and off-campus events related to recruitment, admissions and enrollment such as campus preview days, open house events, information sessions, campus visits and tours, Admitted Student events, and new student orientations.

o

Plan and execute a year-round recruitment schedule including campus visits and presentation, both in-person and virtually/remote. Requires 60% travel, primarily in the North Texas region.

Work proactively with other offices and stakeholder on campus to advocate and assist transfer, returning/readmit, transient, adult, non-traditional, veteran, veteran dependent, first-generation and other underrepresented and marginalized student populations.

Tracks, analyzes and reports statistical data to measure effectiveness and impact of recruitment activities based on key performance metrics.

o

Contributes to the overall success of the Student Access & Success Division and the University by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
