The Director of Global Study & Experience leads the Saint Mary’s College global study programs (study abroad, study away), exchange programs, global grants, global internships & experiential learning opportunities, J-1 and F1 visa processes, and large-scale campus internationalization. We are seeking an innovative, student-focused global education leader with a commitment to the empowerment of women, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ).

The Director is responsible for establishing a vision and strategy for campus internationalization and the global experience at Saint Mary’s College that contributes to a signature student experience focused on empowering women through multiple experiential learning opportunities, integrated career advising and curricula, and a curricular approach to DEIJ. In addition, there may be opportunities to expand global opportunities across all disciplines and degree programs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Craft and implement a vision and strategy for global study, global experiences, and internationalization at Saint Mary’s College and work in collaboration with relevant offices on campus to integrate global education within a signature student experience.
  • Oversee internationalization strategies and opportunities on the Saint Mary’s campus.
  • Oversee the study abroad/away and exchange program portfolio, including:
    • Reimagination and development of partnership agreements that support strong program participation in multiple regions of the world;
    • Development and oversight of policies and procedures;
    • Development and oversight of program evaluation and assessment;
    • Curriculum and co-curriculum design including assurance of experiential components embedded in our programming; health and safety;
    • Ensure intercultural competency and inclusion are incorporated into all curricular programming.
  • Manage all global study budgets and oversee financial operations for study abroad/away programs, global grants, and operating funds
  • Lead the Global Women’s Leadership Institute (SUSI) as a signature exchange program
  • Oversee international grant programs and ensure execution, compliance, and reporting
  • Lead crisis management for all study abroad/away, exchange, and grant programs; conduct site-visits and review partner safety policies; oversee health and safety orientations; respond to student emergencies; ensure compliance with college and federal regulation, including Title IX; maintain timely reporting
  • Serve as Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) for F-1 student visas and Responsible Officer (RO) for J-1 student visas and oversee F-1/J-1 compliance and recertification
  • Supervise a team of global education staff, faculty study abroad coordinators, Global Women’s Leadership SUSI affiliated faculty, student workers, and interns Oversee all marketing, communication, recruitment, and fundraising efforts

Examples of Duties

  • Integrate Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) throughout all programs and expand access to global study to historically minoritized communities
  • Ensure opportunities for internships, community engagement, and other forms of experiential learning are available in all study abroad/away programs
  • Lead global study program design, curriculum/co-curriculum development, and budget development
  • Maintain current partner relations; negotiate new partnership agreements; and renew/terminate existing partnership agreements as needed
  • Implement metrics for evaluation and assessment of all programs and ensure ongoing and timely review
  • Work in collaboration with relevant offices on campus to increase student access to global study and identify scholarship and funding opportunities to ensure affordability
  • Supervise existing federal grants, including Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTAs), and Study of the United States Institute (SUSI), and provide oversight for new grant initiatives
  • Negotiate vendor contracts and services, and oversee purchasing, billing, and account management for global study and experiences

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in international education, higher education administration, or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of experience working in international higher education
  • 2 years of leadership experience in international education and experience supervising a team
  • Experience as an ARO or DSO
  • Experience working with people from a diversity of cultural and identity backgrounds
  • Knowledge of methods, theories, and best-practices in Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Justice and experience working on DEIJ initiatives in international higher education
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, facilitation, leadership, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in global education, higher education administration, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 4 years of progressive leadership experience in higher education
  • Innovative and strategic leader who is passionate about designing new systems, processes, and programs
  • Proficiency in a second language Ongoing experience living, working, or studying globally
