*POSITION SUMMARY*
Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, the Associate Dean for Student Affairs is responsible for the organization, supervision, evaluation, and fiscal management of the Office of Student Affairs. This position is responsible for all aspects of the student experience including orientation, academic and career advising, progression through medical school, student wellbeing and professional development, the residency match, and graduation. The Associate Dean must be responsive to the dynamic needs of the students, the institution, and the faculty, and be able to establish priorities and develop new initiatives to support student success.
*The Associate Dean for Student Affairs will be responsible for the following:*
*Major Responsibilities

*• Create and sustain programs and services that foster holistic wellness-based initiatives helping students develop and sustain physical and emotional well-being

• Develop and oversee a system of relationship-based advising, coaching and career counseling that focuses on supporting students and connecting with appropriate resources throughout their medical education

• Oversee recurring series of workshops to strengthen students’ preparedness for NBME and USMLE exams

• Ensure effective programs are in place for the early identification of students with academic challenges and timely, effective remediation

• Serve as a student advocate and non-voting member of the Student Evaluation and Promotions Committee

• Ensure mistreatment awareness, reporting mechanisms, and mitigation policies and procedures

• Contribute to the development and monitoring of a reliable system to address student grievances, mistreatment, microaggressions, and bias

• Oversee the planning and implementation of student events and programs such as M1 and M2 student orientation, student success and career advising sessions, match day, Gold Humanism Honor Society induction, and graduation

• Oversee the ERAS and NRMP match processes, San Francisco match, Urology match, military match, and, when necessary, NRMP Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program

• Implement quality improvement strategies to comply with LCME standards related to Student Affairs and participate in the preparation for, and the execution of, LCME accreditation site visits

• Promote students’ leadership skills through student government, committee representation, engagement in interest groups, and co-curricular groups

• Serve as a champion for diversity, equity, and inclusion

*Administrative Responsibilities
*
• Review and edit the student handbook annually to ensure that all information and relevant policies and procedures are up to date

• Monitor the budget and finances of the Office of Student Affairs, including forecasting throughout the year to ensure that budgets are followed, meeting with constituents to assess budgetary needs, and working in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Finance and Business Operations to ensure fiscal balance.

• Participate in retreats and committees to facilitate optimal integration and representation of student academic and non-academic performance achievements and concerns

• Collaborate with those responsible for the academic

program to ensure smooth coordination and optimal student progress

• Serve as a resource to students and support approved student initiatives that benefit the learning environment and the local community

• Write letters of recommendation as needed and nominate students for honors, scholarships, and special programs

*Ancillary Activities
*
• Represent the medical school at national and regional student events/medical education organizations and relevant meetings, including, but not limited to, the AAMC Annual Meeting and AAMC Group on Student Affairs

• Serve as a member of the Dean’s Executive Leadership Team

*Required Education and Experience:**LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES*
• Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to aid in developing strong relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, external audiences, and potential partners

• An empathy for student concerns with a willingness to listen to, understand, advise, and advocate on their behalf

• Demonstrated trustworthiness, integrity, and exceptional character

• Adept at relationship building and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external local, regional, and national partners

*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS*
• Doctorate with applicable board certification (MD, DO, PhD, EdD, DPH)

• Eligible for licensure in South Carolina

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in medical education administration with, for example, a previous role as assistant/associate dean, course director, residency director, clerkship director, or academic advisor/mentor for medical students

• Demonstrated passion for medical education and student success

• Strong organizational and leadership skills to manage various stakeholders and initiatives

• Demonstrated success in collaboration, a strong work ethic, and experience in leadership and supervisory roles

*KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES*
• Effective delivery of student support programs and services for medical students

• LCME standards for medical students addressing all aspects of student services

• Federal/state regulations pertaining to student equity, student support programs, privacy, and services

• Successful interpersonal skills, organizational leadership, team building, staff development, and communication techniques
