The Global Education Office at William & Mary invites applicants for the position of Assistant Director of Global Education. The Assistant Director will join a team of committed international educators at W&M, a premier public research university located in historic Williamsburg, Virginia, to serve as an integral member of our Global Education Office (GEO). Our office routinely offers 15 – 20 William & Mary Arts & Science faculty-led summer programs with enrollments of over 300 students each summer. We are looking for an experienced colleague to provide direct support to these programs, working collaboratively with the GEO team, overseas partners, W&M faculty, and students, and various administrative offices across campus.

Responsibilities: The Assistant Director of Global Education takes lead on all efforts for W&M A&S faculty-led summer programs. Focus of the position includes:

• Responsible for coordination of duties for all GEO Advisors working on summer programs

• Assists in strategic planning for W&M A&S summer programming

• Manage and streamline study abroad processes for W&M A&S summer study abroad programs

• Provide support to all W&M A&S summer programs and enrollment management

• Planning and logistics in collaboration with faculty program directors for select portfolio of summer faculty-led programs.

• Active role in GEO promotion and recruitment efforts

 

Requirements: A successful applicant should possess all of the following:

Education: Master’s degree from an accredited institution in education, public administration, intercultural program management, or a related discipline OR, an equivalent combination of education and experience at a level which equates to an advanced degree

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Working knowledge of educational program planning, development, implementation and operations.

• Knowledge of program management, assessment, evaluation, reporting, and best practices.

• Experience in higher education and with study abroad programs, including budgets, policy and procedures, and applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

• Knowledge of and experience with cross-cultural issues;

• Experience in general and/or student program management, student-advising, and student outreach.

• Experience managing or assisting in logistical support for faculty-led programs or analogous types of programs.   

• Demonstrated ability to utilize exceptional planning and organization skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with a high level of attention to detail.

• Proficient computer skills to include Internet browsers and desktop applications to include Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook; with expertise in Excel.

• Demonstrate ability to work independently and collaboratively in a demanding and complex work environment, to carry out assignments in a timely fashion, use initiative, apply discretion and adapt to changing situations and priorities.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and in public speaking, communications, and in conducting presentations to and for a diverse academic, cultural and ethnic population of faculty, staff, students and other internal and external partners.

Preferred: The preferred candidate will also have one or more of the following qualifications:

• Experience in budget management and development, including experience budgeting with multiple currencies

• Experience with Studio Abroad/TerraDotta software. • Fluency in at least one language in addition to English.

• International study or work experience

• Previous experience in a widely diverse work, community or volunteer environment which demonstrates interest in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts

• Previous experience working directly with faculty-led programming in higher education
