Job Summary:
Radford University invites applications for an International Student and Scholar Services Coordinator position in the McGlothlin Center for Global Education and Engagement ( MCGEE ). The McGlothlin Center for Global Education and Engagement at Radford University supports students, faculty and staff interested in pursuing international initiatives that result in a positive impact for the individual and our campus community. The International Student and Scholar Services Coordinator serves as a Designated School Official ( DSO ) with the Department of Homeland Security and an Alternative Responsible Office ( ARO ) with the U.S. Department of State. Administers and oversees all immigration-related matters regarding for international students and scholars. Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Advise students and scholars on matters pertaining to F-1 and J-1 immigration regulations.
- Serve as a Designated School Official ( DSO ) and an Alternate Responsible Officer ( ARO ).
- Manage and update the SEVIS database to comply with federal immigration regulations.
- Advise international students on cultural (school adjustment, acclamation to life in the U.S., culture shock, homesickness, among others) and personal concerns (academic planning, health and health insurance, career planning, employment, non-RU scholarships, personal safety, among others), referring students as needed.
- Assist international students in applying for OPT , CPT , reinstatement, change of status, Social Security number, and driver's license, among others.
- Assist Radford University offices regarding immigration questions; contact relevant legal authorities when needed.
- Keep abreast of changes in laws and regulations that affect international students, scholars and/or the university and communicate changes appropriately to stakeholders.
- Develop and implement the online and in-person international student orientation program including but not limited to: sessions on resources, immigration regulations, travel, introduction to U.S. system of education, class registration, paying student bills, health insurance, safety, and employment; coordinate all other functions of international student orientation including but not limited to: airport pick-ups, meals, housing, activities, materials, student assistants, trips, and external vendors.
- Serve as an advisor to the International Student Association, attending all meetings and events.
- Develop and implement social, cultural, recreational, and informational programs, included but not limited to: information sessions, festivals and celebrations, tax resources, in-state and out-of-state trips, International Student Banquet, International Education Week, and others.
- Assist in developing policies and procedures, and monitor compliance with federal laws and regulations.
- Assists in collecting, compiling and analyzing international student and scholar data for effective decision-making by the McGlothlin Center for Global Education and Engagement, and for reporting to regulatory agencies.
- Manage the RU health insurance plan for international students.
- Monitor international student billing and coordinate with the Bursar's Office and Financial Aid Office as needed.
- Serve and participate on University committees as needed.
- Update the office social media accounts as needed.
- Update and develop appropriate content for the ISSS section of the office website.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- Advanced degree; or Bachelor's degree with demonstrated experience and/or equivalent training that equates to an advanced degree.
- One year of experience working and advising international students and/or scholars on immigration matters, or related experience.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident to meet regulatory requirements as a Designated School Official ( DSO ) and Alternative Responsible Officer ( ARO ).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree.
- Extensive knowledge of student immigration regulations.
- Prior experience working in international education or other overseas experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff.
- Strong advising skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent multitasking and organizational skills.
- Occasional weekend and evening availability.
- Strong knowledge of cross-cultural adjustment.
- Exceptional knowledge of Microsoft suite.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all constituencies, including alumni, faculty, students, parents and staff.
- Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for and skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member.
