Engineering Learning Initiatives (ELI) enhances the learning environment in Cornell University's College of Engineering by promoting evidence-supported practices in teaching and learning. ELI programs empower students by facilitating student-centered, inclusive, collaborative, and experiential learning opportunities within supportive and accessible communities. We provide impactful experiences for graduate and undergraduate students which aim to improve learning outcomes, self-efficacy, and belonging as engineering students. We strive to both inspire and support students' persistence and development as peer educators, researchers, leaders, collaborators, and lifelong learners. ELI has a long history of implementing impactful programs to support learning and development among engineering students.

What You Will Do

The Teaching and Learning Specialist will help develop, implement, assess and research ELI's expanding programs and initiatives related to teaching assistant development, peer education, and ongoing innovation of active and collaborative learning spaces, practices, and communities which support student learning, belonging, and success in the College.

Duties include:

• Working with ELI's Associate Director in recruiting and developing the team of eight graduate peer educators, and collaborating in mentoring them as they prepare and facilitate select components of ELI's TA Development workshops.
• Playing a key role in data management, communications, formative evaluation, and assessment related to the TA development program.
• Being the primary direct support for course TAs engaging in the Interactive Learning Collaborative (ILC) program, helping to inform and guide TAs' ideas, to document program activities, and to employ methods for assessing student learning outcomes.
• Documenting the development of participating TAs as effective educators.
• Collaborating with Engineering Learning Initiatives staff and students to help ensure the success of ELI's many strategic goals and initiatives.
• Working together with ELI directors to enhance research on our program outcomes to share with the larger STEM teaching and learning community.

What We Need

• Master's Degree in Engineering, STEM discipline, Education, or related field, -or- equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3 to 5 years of relevant teaching experience in higher education environment.
• Interest in expanding their knowledge of evidence-supported practice within STEM Education.
• Excellent organizational and data management skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to collaboration.
• Ability to work effectively with graduate and undergraduate students, colleagues, and administrators.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, anti-racism, and wellbeing in teaching and learning contexts.

The position will typically allow for the flexibility to work remotely a maximum of 1 day per week at a location of employee's choosing within the United States. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position.
