Director, Fraternity and Sorority Life

The Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life at The Pennsylvania State University will provide inspiring and effective leadership that will encourage a safe, civil, and engaged fraternity and sorority community. Reporting to an Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director will be responsible for leading the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life (OFSL) which is comprised of 14 staff members. These staff members work with 4 governing councils and over 70 active chapters.

The Director will lead an effort to have Penn State's fraternity and sorority system be the model community for the 21st century. The Director will be responsible for creating a Fraternity and Sorority community that promotes Penn State's values through leadership education, community engagement, responsible behavior, and student health and safety. The Director must facilitate opportunities for forward-thinking and involve key stakeholders in supporting the University's vision for fraternity and sorority life.

The successful candidate will be an innovative, knowledgeable, and passionate leader and will have progressive experience in a fraternity and sorority life office or related role, strong working knowledge of national coordinating/governing groups and multicultural groups, experience with advising student organizations, and a demonstrated ability to develop effective, professional relationships with colleagues and students.

Responsibilities include:
  • Direct supervision of the associate director of Fraternity and Sorority Life, an assistant director responsible for leadership development and educational initiatives, a senior assistant director for risk prevention and event planning and three administrative support staff
  • Engage in strategic planning and assessment initiatives
  • Develop expectations and implementing accountability measures for organizations
  • Assist staff in delivering leadership development activities
  • Implement training for council members, chapter officers and alumni
  • Direct the advising of the councils and communities
  • Manage of the office's financial resources including the Greek membership fee
  • Be a resource to the sorority and fraternity communities at Penn State's Commonwealth campuses
  • Work with the offices of Student Accountability and Conflict Response, Student Leadership and Involvement and Residence Life and Housing

The position requires a master's degree in higher education/student development or related field (doctorate preferred) and a minimum of six plus years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
