Purpose

Reporting to the director of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), the assistant director for community development and outreach is responsible for programming and services that assist students and scholars to achieve their social, academic, and professional goals throughout their university careers.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Administrative Management

  • In collaboration with the director, provide vision for a quality international student and scholar engagement strategy that includes co-curricular initiatives; cultural and social programming; and support activities.
  • Provide collaborative leadership to a team of professional staff members responsible for ISSS programming, outreach, support services, and front desk operations. Recruit, hire, and train staff members, conduct annual performance evaluations, and foster career growth of engagement and support team.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of and provide strategic oversight for community development and outreach team. Determine the administrative calendar and plan for the execution of tasks for a smooth workflow.

Programming and Services

  • Oversee ISSS signature programs and activities including but not limited to international orientation, Friendship Program, PALS, Global Living Learning Community, and graduating student reception.
  • Manage the development and implementation of innovative programming to support a vibrant, diverse, and inclusive community for international students and scholars and their families.
  • Supervise the implementation of support services for international students and scholars including nonresident tax assistance and front desk operations.
  • Use best practices to provide the highest level of customer service through technology, topical expertise, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Conduct needs assessments and analyze data to determine the quality and effectiveness of ISSS services and programs; provide data-driven recommendations for enhancements and support.

Communication and Outreach

  • Provide oversight for the coordination of ISSS communications to ensure timeliness and consistency.
  • Collaborate with Texas Global Marketing and Communications to manage ISSS social media strategy and engagement.
  • Represent ISSS at university meetings and collaborate with campus partners to support and advocate for the needs of international students and scholars.
  • Ensure that written communication, including but not limited to the ISSS webpages, presentations, handouts and publications, includes clear and concise information for international students and scholars, departments, and the university community and is consistent with the Texas Global brand.

Support of ISSS and Texas Global functions

  • Serve as a collaborative member of the ISSS leadership team. Actively support the critical priorities and functions of ISSS and Texas Global, attend weekly staff meetings, serve on internal committees, and participate in work groups to support the mission of the organization. 

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in international education, higher education administration, student affairs, or related field. Five years of progressively responsible professional experience in international education programs within higher education. Solid experience in supervising professional staff. Proven track record of using assessment tools to develop and enhance programming and services. Knowledge of using best practices to engage constituents using social media platforms. Strong skills in intercultural communication, professional communication, and public speaking. Excellent written communication skills with a strong attention to detail. Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a professional setting. Equivalent combination or substitution of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD or EdD in international education, higher education administration, student affairs, or related field. Experience working, living, and/or studying abroad.

Salary Range

$70,000+ depending on qualifications
