Student Services Librarian

The Pritzker Legal Research Center of Northwestern Pritzker School of Law invites applications for the full-time, benefits-eligible position of Student Services Librarian. The successful candidate will join a team of experienced reference librarians who provide research and instructional support services to the Northwestern Law community, as well as to a broad range of library users throughout Northwestern University and beyond. Reporting to the Associate Director for Public Services, the Student Services Librarian has particular responsibility for outreach to student organizations, as well as providing reference and instructional services. We seek someone who is charismatic, courageous, collaborative and committed to excellence.

Primary duties and responsibilities

• Participates in the Center’s extensive educational programs, including our first-year research program and advanced legal research courses
• Coordinates outreach efforts to law students including orientation activities, services for moot court and trial teams and support for Northwestern’s student-edited journals
• Serves as the primary liaison to law student organizations and student-facing law school departments including Career Strategy, Student Services, Academic and Professional Excellence (APEX), and the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Engagement.
• Designs measures to gauge student satisfaction with the library, such as creation of a library student advisory board, surveys or focus groups
• Provides in-person and online reference services, including development of tutorials, and guides
• Develop informal instructional programming such as workshops, presentations, library tours, etc.
• Contributes to Center’s website and social media presences

Required qualifications

• J.D. from an A.B.A.-accredited institution
• Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school, or related experience and interest in pursuing an M.L.S., or equivalent degree.
• Demonstrated experience with legal research materials, techniques and strategies
• Strong service orientation and enthusiasm for working with law students
• Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others in a collegial atmosphere; ability to manage and work efficiently on multiple projects

Preferred qualifications

• Successful experience teaching legal research in the classroom
• Professional experience in an academic law library
