Job Overview

The Assistant Dean of Student Affairs is responsible for the overall experience and safety for all students enrolled in Summer and Special programs and executes the vision for a robust and safe residential experience for all students.

Primary area of responsibilities include:

  • Relationship Development and Maintenance
  • Supervision and Management
  • Budgeting
  • Representation on Associate Dean's leadership team

Work Interactions

Reporting directly to the Associate Dean of Summer and Special Programs, the Assistant Dean directly supervises the Director of Student Affairs and the Lead Parent and Student Services Advisor.

The Assistant Dean interacts internally with student affairs departments on main campus, GUPD, Risk Management re Protection of Minors, Student Health Center, Public Health Team, CAPS, ARC, Summer Housing, Facilities, Student Centers, GEMS, and Director of Finance and Operations.

They interact externally with the Musiker, LLC team, various vendors for student life programming and swag; maintain a leadership position with the residential supervision team, contracted through Musiker, LLC; and interact with other external stakeholders.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree or 3 to 5 years of experience in a leadership position in higher education
  • Experience with pre-college students
  • Experience working in student affairs and/or knowledge of student development theory and practice
  • Comfortable communicating with a variety of stakeholders
  • Willingness and availability work some evenings and weekends in an on-call capacity

Preferred qualifications
  • Experience in residential living or student engagement
  • A strong customer service orientation
  • Experience working with parents

Work Mode: Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Such review may necessitate a change to a position's mode of work designation. The Assistant Dean of Student Affairs may work remotely from September 1st through March 31st, but must work in-person at least two days a week April 1st through August 31st at a designated SCS campus location.

Additionally, as a member of the Associate Dean's leadership team, the Assistant Dean works some evenings and weekends in an on-call capacity to address emergencies and escalated concerns when programs are in session.

Finally, the Assistant Dean attends select program events, such as check-in, closing ceremonies and or orientations.
