Overview

Leads the development and coordination of Special Education services to meet the needs of all students. Accountable for overall direction, coordination and evaluation of special education programming at MCCPS, in accordance with local, state and federal mandates to maximize students' ability to learn and function effectively.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinates and ensures special education services, including organizing and chairing initial eligibility, annual, re-evaluation and other Team meetings as required.
Maintains, amends, reviews, and revises Individual Educational Plans each year as mandated by law, including overseeing testing and reporting.
Maintains documentation of all paperwork and records pertaining to the referral process, initial evaluations, three year re-evaluations, and annual review and progress meetings.
Assists with the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of Learning Specialists, Inclusion Teachers related service providers and consultants.
Functions as an instructional leader in the development of highly effective inclusionary practices including research-based practices in co-teaching.
Recruits, selects, trains, and evaluates special education staff
Acts as resource person for parents and faculty/staff with regard to professional services obtained through private agencies and accessing personal health insurance.
Provides consultative services to the school community, including parents, teachers, specialists, and students.
Facilitates up-to-date parent information regarding students' progress via triennial progress reports.
Represents the Marblehead Community Charter Public School at hearings/advocacy meetings.
Meets with the Special Education Parent Advisory Council at least once per trimester.
Provides transitional assistance from sending school and to the next school setting.
Maintains funds though grants.
Maintains communication with appropriate agencies and offices, including the DESE.
Meets with teaching teams regularly to discuss students who are on IEPs
Participates in professional development
Organizes and plans professional development for members of the Special Education Department
Functions as an active and contributing member of the school's Leadership Team
Maintains frequent and comprehensive communication with the Head of School.
Performs other duties that may be assigned by the Head of School

Education, Certifications & Licensure

Master's Degree in an appropriate discipline or in educational leadership.
Valid Massachusetts license as Special Education Administrator.
Demonstrated skills in organizational development, planning, decision-making, communication, interpersonal skills and community relations.
