JOB GOAL:To provide secondary school age students an
opportunity to participate in a co-curricular athletic activity
that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a
knowledge and understanding of the pleasure of sport, the
principles of fair play and the coordination and communication of all high school student activities.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES - ATHLETICS:

Organizes and administers the overall program of interscholastic athletics for the
district.

Provides leadership in the selection, assignment and evaluation of athletic coaches and makes recommendations to the high school principal for hiring and firing of coaches.

Fosters good school/community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the athletic program.

Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events.

Hires officials, team physicians, athletic trainer, EMT, police officers, fire personnel, as required, and assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.

Arranges transportation for athletic contests and practices.

Develops and oversees the operational logistics of all home athletic events including the conduct of all those in attendance.

Establishes the physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport, and verifies each athlete's eligibility.

Prepares and administers the athletic program budget.

Requisitions, in cooperation with appropriate staff members, supplies, uniforms, and equipment for athletic programs.

Supervises the cleaning, storage, and care of all athletic equipment.

Supervises all ticket sales and fund-raising events connected with the athletic program, and assumes responsibility for proper handling and accounting of monies involved.

Arranges all details of visiting teams' needs.

Makes all necessary arrangements for the use of non-school playing fields and activities.

Arranges the practice schedule for the coaches on the fields and in the gymnasiums.

Establishes and adheres to a regular schedule of inspection of all athletic facilities and installations to maintain and improve their safety.

Serves as a consultant to the Town recreation director as requested.

Keeps records of the results of all senior high school athletic contests and maintains a record file on all award winners, stating the date and type of the award, including athletic scholarships.

Directs an in-school co-curricular program designed to foster support for the athletic teams and school spirit among non-participants.

Conducts orientation for all coaches to ensure adherence of MIAA, PVIAC and School Committee rules, policies and procedures.

Conducts seasonal student athlete recognition events.

Conducts seasonal "Parent Information Nights" to review rules and regulations.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES - STUDENT ACTIVITIES:

Ensures that co-curricular activities are conducted in adherence to School Committee policy and procedures.

Assures the adherence to all governing body rules and regulations with regards to co-curricular activities, which come under MASC, MSAA or MIAA authority.

Serves as the liaison between the high school principal and co-curricular advisors.

Compiles records of all co-curricular meetings (i.e., attendance, agendas, events, etc.).

Facilitates the development of budget recommendations for student activities for the high school principal.

Assures adherence to procedures for the collection, deposit and handling of funds with respect to fundraising activities approved by the high school principal.

Establishes procedures with the high school principal for the procurement of supplies or materials necessary for co-curricular activities.

Schedules facility usage for all co-curricular activities.

Conducts meetings as needed with high school co-curricular advisors.

Develops, coordinates and publicizes a monthly calendar of all co-curricular events.

Coordinates all co-curricular activities at the high school.

Job Requirements

  • A Master's degree from an accredited college or university.

    Recommended experience in athletics, coaching, physical education or sports management.

    At least 5 years experience as a teacher, coach and/or supervisor.

    A valid administrator's license

    211 work days per year
  • At least 5 yearsof relevant experience preferred
  • Master degree preferred
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
