The Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies (TDPS) teaches performance as a mode of critical inquiry, creative expression, and public engagement. Through performance training and research, we create liberal arts graduates with expanded analytical, technical, and imaginative capacities.
Located within the College of Letters and Science, the department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies has approximately 22 graduate students, 100 undergraduate majors, and 12 permanent faculty members in addition to 20 faculty affiliated with the graduate group. The Department appoints a number of exceptionally qualified temporary academic staff, including lecturers and GSIs. The Department is located within Dwinelle Hall and Zellerbach Hall on the UC Berkeley main campus. Facilities include dedicated performance venues, studio and teaching spaces, and workshops. The Undergraduate Student Services Advisor is responsible for administering various aspects of the Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies undergraduate programs, including advising students on academic program policies, curriculum planning, enrollment support, and student event planning. The Undergraduate SAA provides assistance and collaboration with the Chair, Manager, faculty, Program Associate, and students in academic advising, including transfer and new major advising, curriculum scheduling, student orientation and events, undergraduate announcements, and commencement.

- Provides extensive advising to students on two independent majors; prerequisites, requirements, course content, course offerings, and faculty research/teaching interests.
- Advises faculty on departmental/school/college and university policies and procedures.
- Reviews students' progress and advises students and faculty on requirements for degree/program completion; identifies students with progression problems and recommends interventions.
- Approves petitions as required.
- Reviews and updates student records.
- In consultation with faculty, L&S, and the Registrar, researches and facilitates resolution of academic issues.
- Determines barriers, distractions, and complications affecting a student's academic success, helps students recognize these key non-academic issues, and makes appropriate referrals for additional therapeutic counseling and/or assistance from other units.
- Advises new and continuing instructors on student advising issues.
- Identifies students with GPA or progress problems, advises students, and recommends appropriate courses of action by the department/school/college.
Recruitment and Transfer Advising:
- Designs and conducts orientation sessions for incoming transfer students.
- Plans and implements outreach programs with specifically targeted institutions; advises prospective applicants on necessary academic preparation; appropriateness of program as it pertains to the prospective transfer student's goals; utilizing in-depth knowledge of the department's major requirements, evaluates domestic and international transcripts for degree eligibility.
- Evaluates courses using established articulation agreements, and makes recommendations to the Undergraduate Faculty Advisors when such agreements are unavailable.
Course Scheduling and Enrollment Management:
- Provides feedback and suggestions for curriculum planning to the Chair and Manager.
- In partnership with the Program Associate, helps to establish enrollment limits and process waitlists, including review and approval of concurrent enrollment requests.
- Advises faculty on policy for submission of curriculum changes and additions.
Program Planning & Administration:
- Analyzes operation of undergraduate program and suggests long-term solutions to the Faculty for each aspect of the program.
- Assists the Chair and Manager in curricular planning.
- Identifies trends, such as length of time to degree, and makes recommendations.
- Conducts degree certification and award nominations.
- Keeps program descriptions up-to-date, rewriting when necessary to reflect changes in the programs.
- Prepares and revises undergraduate handbooks.
- Coordinates Cal Day program, assisting the Chairs in planning and staffing a successful event.
- Assesses suitability of DeCal proposals by undergraduate students and refers to relevant faculty.
- Coordinates Undergraduate Student Associations.
- Advises department/students on the job market process, and the standards and norms specific to the student's field of study; advises on summer internship programs; develops and maintains network of departments and regional firms interested in hiring summer students.
- Organizes and attends job fairs.
- Develops and enhances an alumni recruitment network. Identifies and cultivates potential employers.
Develops and enhances an alumni recruitment network, and serves as departmental liaison for peer advising group of students, coordinating activities including welcome events, information sessions, and commencement.

Salary & Benefits
This is a 50% part-time (20 hrs a week) non-exempt career position, which is paid hourly and eligible for UC Benefits.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $28.74 - $39.27.
