Summary of Job Details:
Responsible for department services, processing of immigration documentation, and compliance of federal immigration regulations for international students and scholars. Oversees the department's mission, services, mission continuity, goals and priorities. Serves as the Primary Designated School Official and the Responsible Officer for the campus. Interfaces with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of State, and state and other government agencies as well as international education groups. Develops internal controls to mitigate risk, and maintains a current business continuity plan to ensure immigration processes remain in status. Applies knowledge of immigration regulations for F-1 & J-1 students as well as H-1B's, a scholar program visa categories to ensure compliance. Reviews and interprets federal laws, regulations pertaining to international students/scholars, and advises campus partners on impacts of campus policy and decisions. Using advanced knowledge and specialized skills, advises students and scholars regarding federal regulations, academic, personal, financial and acculturation issues; responds to crisis situations involving the international community. Responsible for the overall management of a $1.6 million departmental budget with multiple fund accounts. Hires, trains, directs, supervises, and evaluates staff, including the OISS Designated School Officers and Alternate Responsible Officers with SEVIS oversight. Works with the IT team on the IT needs for the department to include UCSB's Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and integration with SUNAPSIS. Serves as a liaison and consultant on all areas for the campus in regard to immigration regulations and policies as well as international exchange activities. Advises and assists the international student and scholar community.
Required Qualifications:
• MA in Higher Education or a related field, or five years of related experience in a higher education setting.
• Experience working with international students and scholars.
• Knowledge of immigration regulations for F-1 & J-1 students as well as H-1B scholar program visa categories and how they relate to campus policies regarding student registration/leave/withdrawal and employment. Analytical ability to interpret federal regulations.
Special Conditions of Employment:
• Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States in order to be authorized to use the Department of Homeland Security's Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) database.
• May work occasional evenings and weekends.
• Satisfactory conviction history background check
• UCSB is a Tobacco-Free environment.
Hiring/Budgeted Salary Range: $100,000 - $110,000/Yr.
Full Salary Range: $83,100 - $169,500/Yr.
Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
