Reporting to the Associate Provost & Dean of Admission, the Senior Assistant Director of International Admissions (Senior Assistant Director) oversees all activities related to the recruitment, outreach and yield activities related to prospective international students.  This includes coordinating efforts to align strategies to meet the university’s enrollment goals, both overall and international goals specifically, and working closely with campus partners on shared international student outreach efforts and initiatives and making informed recommendations on both established and emerging international student markets for Seattle University to focus its efforts.

The Senior Assistant Director is the primary relationship manager and recruiter for international prospective students. This role travels extensively and is in regular communication with prospective students and their families.

This position advises on and contributes to the operations and processes within the Admissions Office that support international students’ needs which includes managing the international undergraduate application process review and making the initial undergraduate admission recommendation for international applicants in accordance with university selection criteria. The Senior Assistant Director provides training for the Admissions Evaluators concerning foreign credential evaluation and will advise on proof of English proficiency for both domestic and international students and is the primary decision maker for reviewing these requirements under the advisement of the Dean of Admissions, Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Director of Graduate Admissions.

This role serves as the Admissions liaison to the International Student Center, Education Abroad, the Office of Global Engagement and international Athletics for Seattle University.

 

The Senior Assistant Director plans and manages own extensive domestic and international travel schedule as part of the University’s international recruitment outreach and work with partner organizations both domestically and internationally. This position will represent Seattle University with professional organizations such as NAFSA, Education USA, International ACAC and others and serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) with the Department of Homeland Security and be the primary manager of other DSO’s affiliated with admissions for the purposes of immigration.

Essential Functions:

 

  • Develop and execute international recruitment and outreach strategies in collaboration with Global Engagement [J3] and other key academic and administrative campus partners.
  • Plan and manage own extensive domestic and international travel schedule as part of the University’s international recruitment outreach, and include/represent other university partners as appropriate.
  • Advise both internal and external parties on matters of initial immigration, SEVIS requirements, English proficiency standards, policies around international admissions and transcript evaluation, and incoming transfer related issues.
  • Interview students, engage in telephone and e-mail communications. Serve as liaison for Admissions to campus stakeholders including Education Abroad, Cultural and Language Bridge program and the International Student Center.
  • Review and evaluate foreign credentials for undergraduate applicants. Collaborate with Graduate Admissions on external evaluations of foreign credentials for graduate applicants.
  • Provide advisory support for the recognition and evaluation of foreign institutions for other campus departments. Develop and manage conditional admission process for international applicants from partner institutions.
  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO). Perform initial immigration for incoming international (F -1) and processing for incoming reciprocal exchanges (J-1) students.
  • Coordinate immigration advising and processing for all incoming international students with International Student Center staff. Review undergraduate acceptance packets for the appropriate Datatel Colleague coding, provisions, and acceptance packet materials. Communicate admission decisions to applicants with international addresses.

  • Represent the University through professional organizations. Participate in Admissions Office planning, events and activities. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Other Function 1: 25%  Development of publications and for creating a robust communications plan that utilizes print, email, digital and social media channels
  • Other function 2: 20Advising, Customer Service, and Liaison. Advise both internal and external parties on matters of initial immigration, SEVIS requirements, English proficiency standards, policies around international admissions and transcript evaluation, and incoming transfer related issues. Supervise student employees serving international needs.Respond to telephone and internet inquiries. Provide telephone support for the Undergraduate Admissions general telephone line. Act as liaison for Admissions to Education Abroad and the International Student Center.
  • Other Function 3: 20%  Oversee International Student Application Review and Credential Evaluation. Review and evaluate foreign credentials for undergraduate and graduate applicants. Make initial admissions decision recommendation and provide advisory support for the recognition and evaluation of foreign institutions for other campus departments.
  • Other Function 4: 20%  Collaborate with campus partners on shared international student outreach efforts and initiatives. Work closely with international student advisors at regional community colleges to establish regular and frequent visits and presentations to make students aware of transfer opportunities.  Make informed recommendations on both established and emerging international student markets for Seattle University to focus its efforts.
  • Other Function 5: 10%  Immigration documentation and processing. Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO). Perform initial immigration for incoming international (F -1) and processing for incoming reciprocal exchanges (J-1) students. Coordinate immigration advising and processing for all incoming international students with International Student Center staff.
  • Other Function 6: 5%  International Admissions Research and Best Practices. Collaborate with professional organizations such as NAFSA, AWISA, and AACRAO to assist in maintaining current best practices and policies in international admissions and evaluation. Research new trends and developments in worldwide educational systems and the field of international education.

    Qualifications

     

     

     

    Minimum Qualifications:

     

  • Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of three or more years in undergraduate or graduate international admissions or international student center of a post-secondary educational institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • Knowledgeable about federal immigration laws and SEVIS.
  • Must possess well-developed organizational skills, strong oral and written communication skills and establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage marketing plans in support of international student recruitment strategies and extensive knowledge of trends and best practices in international education.
  • Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Demonstrated skills in working with students from diverse populations. 
  • Preferred Qualifications:

     

  • Experience using an ERP and CRM specifically Ellucian Colleague system and Slate CRM software. 
  • Compensation at a Glance:

    Salary Range: $65,479 - $70,000
