Under direct supervision, help students to establish and achieve academic, vocational and personal goals best suited to their needs, abilities and interests. Required qualifications: Possession of California Pupil Personnel Services credential authorizing school counseling. Desirable qualifications: Three years of teaching experience and one year of counseling experience. Knowledge of communications skills, behavioral patterns of secondary pupils, test and measurements, problem identification, school curriculum, school and staff policies and regulations. Ability to counsel students individually and in groups; work well with faculty and staff; identify community needs and resources. Typical Duties: Administer and interpret testing program for staff, parents and students; register students for classes; make student program adjustments in relation to student and school needs; maintain current vocational information to be used in vocational, occupational and career planning; provide guidance for students who have health, welfare and personal proglems; conduct parent, student and teacher conferences; participate in eight grade orientation and counseling; conduct ninth and tenth grade student orientation programs; evaluate academic achievement to insure the fulfillment of requirements for graduation; work with students who do not demonstrate satisfactory progress; provide information pertaining to armed services; assist with youth employment; assist with placement of students in Special Education programs; assist area administrators and teachers with student discipline; maintain class counts for scheduling purposes; assist students, teachers and parents in understanding and interpreting information in cum folders; act as liaison between community agencies and students; develop and maintain complete and current records for all students; plan and participate in walk-around registration; compile statistics on graduates and dropouts; help to improve school, parent and community relations; be currently aware of developments in the field of counseling and guidance; perform other duties as assigned.
