Gettysburg College invites applicants for the Assistant Director of International Student Services.  The Office of International Student Services fosters a welcoming and inclusive campus environment that allows international students to be engaged, be successful and flourish. The office does this by providing thoughtful advising, professional immigration support, campus advocacy, and leadership in intercultural campus events.  The Assistant Director serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) providing immigration advice and support to over 200 international students, while assisting with cultural programming.

This position reports to the Director of International Student Services.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Advising:

  • Serve as a DSO and advise students on all aspects of F-1 visa regulations. Maintain student SEVIS records through regular batching, using Peoplesoft PASS module, including generating I-20s for new and continuing students. Manage SEVIS records for alumni on OPT and STEM extensions. Advising students on cultural and social adjustment, health and insurance, driver’s license, banking, social security numbers, and other related issues. Assist students in using Sprintax to complete and file federal tax forms. Stay up to date with regulatory updates that affect students through professional forums, professional development, and professional organizations.

Programming:

  • Develop and lead International Student Services office programming that supports the retention and overall success of international students. Collaborate with campus partners on intercultural, career, wellness and social activity programming; including the larger Inclusion & Belonging team. Assist with planning and managing International Student Orientation. Assist with advising cultural student organizations. Represent ISS on campus committees and work groups. Manage ISS social media presence.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field; Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of one year’s experience as a Designated School Official. Demonstrated experience advising international students. Proven ability to provide high-level, professional immigration advising. Must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident to meet regulatory requirements as a Designated School Official.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience living in or working with other cultures. Excellent writing and presentation skills. Record of supporting student inclusion and belonging, especially as it relates to international students. Demonstrated understanding of Higher Ed database systems, including queries and data management.  Excellent customer service skills and experience working with faculty and staff in a higher education setting. Experience using SEVIS batch software highly preferred. Proficiency in other languages preferred. Willingness to become a certified driver for Gettysburg College vehicles.

 

Building Location:  Position is in-person at the International Student Center, 239 North Washington Street, Gettysburg, PA 17325
