The State University of New York at Cortland (SUNY Cortland) is seeking an International Student Advisor (SL3) to advise international students on their immigration status and cultural adjustment, and to support their academic success. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting international students with their compliance with immigration, student employment, income tax, and other policies and procedures; SEVIS reporting; student academic advisement, health insurance requirements, coordinating orientation and cultural events and programming; managing social media, supporting the university’s incoming student exchange program; developing web- and print-based publications; and contributing to office initiatives and campus internationalization efforts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree Experience working with international or study abroad students Experience working with office technology Experience or evidence of ability to work in a team environment and manage multiple priorities Evidence of communication, public speaking, and organizational skills

Because this position requires serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) for SEVIS, the candidate must be either a citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States per 8 CFR 214.3(l)(1)*. *Legal citation from the Regulations page of ICE.gov.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree Significant international experience Knowledge of SEVIS functionality and Department of Homeland Security regulations governing F1 programs
