Description/Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Enrollment Management or designee, the Special Populations Admissions Advisor works to recruit new special populations students and advise them on the steps for enrollment into Baltimore City Community College (BCCC). Special populations primarily serve military veterans/veteran connected students and includes international students, students with disabilities, dual enrollment high school students, and other special populations groups. The Special Population Advisor assists with collection of special application materials needed for certifying Federal and State military benefits for students and dependents. The position will also serve as one of the designated VA Certifying Officials for BCCC. Supports the overall operation of the Admissions department as needed.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Recruits special populations students into BCCC including military veterans, international, and other assigned special populations groups including military veteran students and dependents and other assigned special populations
- Assists students and parents with the steps to enrollment at BCCC
- Assists students and parents with the steps to applying for Financial Aid, Scholarships, and other student aid programs
- Represents BCCC at recruitment events at area schools and community organizations.
- Enters supplemental application materials for assigned populations into Banner including test scores, exemptions, transcripts, and other supplemental application materials
- May register students into classes
- Assists with the development of workshops and presentations for prospective students, parents, faculty, staff, and other groups
- Advises students and others on general degree and certificate requirements for BCCC credit, workforce, continuing education, and other programs
- Assists with the review and ranking of student who have applied to specialized programs and other programs such as Nursing and Health Professions programs
- Communicates regularly with prospective students via email, phone, and other electronic media
- Uses BCCCs Customer Relations Manager System (Banner CRM Recruit) to manage and communicate with assigned caseloads of special populations students
- Works regular evenings and weekends as scheduled
- Participates in professional development and training opportunities to keep current on job related functions and certification requirements.
- Provides excellent customer service
- Provides front desk coverage as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution
- One year experience working in admissions or enrollment management
- Safe driving record and ability to drive to area recruiting events
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Good presentation skills
- Good experience working with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
- Experience working with a CRM system such as Banner, PeopleSoft, or similar CRM program
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree from a regionally accredit institution in a related field such as advising, counseling, student personnel, or higher education administration
- Two or more years of experience working with veteran students in a higher education setting
- Bi-lingual (preference Spanish speaking and English)
- Community College experience
