Geophysics is a field that integrates geology, mathematics, and physics to understand how Earth works. Geophysicists study Earth processes through a combination of laboratory experiments, computational and theoretical modeling, remote imaging, and direct observation. Research in the Geophysics Department at Stanford has both fundamental and strategic elements, addressing basic scientific and critical societal needs.

The Department of Geophysics is seeking an experienced student services professional to provide administrative and operational support to faculty and students. The Assistant Director of Student Services will be responsible for all student services matters, including making recommendations regarding student advising through the declaration process, academic curriculum, event planning, financial aid, housing, registrar services, visa services, student life, career counseling and academic services using Stanford defined policies and practices and professional knowledge. The position is also responsible for advising students on course selection and degree progress, course scheduling, bulletin updates, and maintaining relevant web site pages. The position will report to the Director of Finance and Operations.

Your Responsibilities will include:
    Manage all aspects of graduate student program, including interpretation of policies, analysis and problem solving, and advising/recommending action plans.Work with Admissions Committee to support annual process.Provide advice to students on a range of issues, including, but not limited to, academic progress, academic program policies, career plans, accessibility, community standards, etc., in order to guide them in making appropriate choices and decisions. May have to escalate issues to a senior advisor.Manage course scheduling, Stanford Bulletin entries, room scheduling, and other logistics related to academic operationManage postdoctoral and visiting scholar appointments.Apprise students of research, fellowship, and scholarship opportunities. Participate in related student recruitment and selection.Provide first line response to identify students in crisis and refer to appropriate resources, as needed.Collect and analyze data from multiple sources including student feedback, surveys, trend reports, and data analytics. Prepare and summarize reports and make recommendations to enhance offerings, such as programs and courses and to influence current processes and policies.Oversee and implement the setup and maintenance of financial aid and other support for all graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.Identify trends, perform needs analysis, and participate in the implementation and testing of new technology.May develop marketing materials and strategies for program activities and outreach functions. Assist in planning and developing webinars, education fairs and other external functions.May provide oversight with the administration of financial processes such as financial reimbursements, data entry, reviewing terms and conditions regarding contracts, understanding vendor requirements, and following up and resolving issues.May train and supervise other staff, volunteers, students, and temporary workers.

    To be successful in this position, you will need:
    Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
      Strong communication skills to share information clearly and effectively to internal and external audiences, and management.Advanced analysis and problem-solving skills.Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.Advanced customer service skills.Understanding of financial transactions.Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.

      Physical Requirements
        Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

        The expected pay range for this position is $66,100 to $101,000 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
