Skidmore College
Saratoga Springs, New York
Director of Admissions
Skidmore College, a highly selective, nationally ranked liberal arts college, is seeking a collaborative partner and empowering mentor to serve as their next Director of Admissions. Skidmore enrolls approximately 2,600 students in 44 degree programs, including programs in both traditional liberal arts and pre-professional disciplines. Consistently ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the country’s Best National Liberal Arts Colleges, Skidmore’s curriculum balances a commitment to the liberal arts with an emphasis on interdisciplinarity along with preparation for professions, civic leadership, and lifelong learning.
THE POSITION
Reporting to Jessica Ricker, the newly named Vice President for Enrollment & Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid, the Director of Admissions will lead and manage the daily operations of the Office of Admissions. The director will serve as a senior advisor to the vice president on all admission matters and is responsible for setting strategic enrollment goals, as well as planning and directing the personnel, operations and technology function of the Admissions Office. The director helps to guide planning and implementation efforts for the recruitment and admission of a diverse and academically exceptional class.
The selected candidate must be able to lead and manage a culture of transition through collaboration and influence, and to cultivate a sense of team and belonging in the office. The director will be a systematic thinker with the ability to balance the values of the college with forward-thinking approaches to the work. Professional experience managing the interplay of marketing and recruiting strategies, admission goals and yield is essential, as is the ability to use data to identify and assess effectiveness of admission policies and practices.
The Director of Admissions leads an admissions staff of 19 full-time and up to 10 part-time staff, and is supported each academic year by 60 or more student admission ambassadors. While also building cooperation with various faculty, staff and college leaders across campus, the director is primarily focused on providing strong management and mentorship of the admission staff on a day-to-day basis.
