Summary
The Residential College (RC) is a four-year liberal arts program, housed in East Quadrangle on Central Campus across from the Ross School of Business, is a vibrant place to learn for our 800+ current students as well as the community. Since 1967, the RC has combined living and learning in ways unique to the rest of campus by virtue of being both a Michigan Learning Community (MLC) as well as an LSA academic department that offers majors and minors. With more than 70 faculty members in expertise ranging from evolutionary biology to art history to creative writing, the RC is a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary environment where students of all academic interests flourish.
The Office of Admissions and Recruitment, part of RC Academic Services, is the gateway to the RC for all of our incoming students. Just as students choose to come to the University of Michigan, many students want to be able to learn in a small liberal arts community while utilizing the resources of a large research university. RC Admissions and Recruitment works with students and their parents as they are making the decision to come to the University of Michigan, providing them with another opportunity to tailor their education and making sure that coming to UM is the right fit for their future. The admissions and recruitment coordinator is the initial contact for parents and students alike, and the first person they connect with. The Residential College is part of the Michigan Learning Communities within the College of LSA. This position partners with the LSA Office of Undergraduate Education and other MLC Leadership in strategizing overall support for LSA MLC's.

Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief Administrator, the Director of Admissions, Recruitment and MLC Administration will coordinate the collaborate efforts of admissions and recruitment in the Residential College.
Summary of major duties include:
Supervision of Residential College Undergraduate Recruitment
Make decisions and procedures for the Residential College on RC recruitment strategies, deciding on what programs to engage in (recruitment events, LSA admitted student retention Campus Days, LSA prospective student recruitment fairs, high school recruitment fairs, etc.). Independently strategize and allocate RC resources towards recruitment focuses for the college. This includes deciding on who to train to be RC recruitment liaisons, coordinating participation opportunities for RC faculty and engagement program staff, and the purchasing of equipment to support recruitment efforts (computers, signage, banners, flyers, promotional materials, etc.). Other, more detailed specific aspects of recruitment management and supervision include:
- Supervise, manage, coordinate and oversee RC Campus Days as part of LSA Recruitment
- Supervise Student Visit Events.
- Work directly with UM Office of Undergraduate Admissions on recruitment events, representing the Residential College as the RC Admissions and Recruitment Supervisor
- Partner and Collaborate with LSA Admissions as the supervisor in the Residential College, representing the Residential College and making decisions with LSA Admissions on behalf of the Residential College
- Manage the incorporation of DEI into RC recruiting.
Supervision of Residential College Undergraduate Admissions
Supervise admissions management as well as make decisions on policies, procedures and processes in regards to how admissions is handled in the Residential College. Supervision incudes decisions on admissions policies, practices and processes, including the allowance of late transfer students into the Residential College, and determining of enrollment caps based on communications and collaboration with East Quad Housing. Other, more detailed specific aspects of admissions management and supervision include:
- Be the Residential Colleges supervisor and decision-maker when working with OUA, LSA Recruitment & Admissions, HIO, ONSP and fellow Michigan Learning Communities (MLCs).
- Independently represent RC administration in meetings, collaborations, etc., with these groups as their primary contact with the RC when discussing and implementing admissions processes
- Create Long-Term Admissions and Recruitment Planning and Goal-Setting
- Creation and Maintenance of Admission Resources
Supervise as the Residential College Administrative Housing Liaison and the Residential College Michigan Learning Community Manager
This position works directly with UM Housing and the LSA Michigan Learning Communities (MLC). For UM Housing, this position is responsible for the independent management of various student issues and concerns, such as students needing to change rooms due to roommate disputes, supporting RC students in need of housing-based accommodations, and placement of transfer students in East Quad housing. When the MLC group brings up issues regarding pathways and avenues for working together or working with UM housing on certain projects, this position makes decisions on what the Residential College will do in support of these projects. This position works directly with administrative managers from the MLCs, and represents the RC as an administrative leader in this group. Other, more detailed specific aspects of housing liaison and MLC management and supervision include:
- Supervising the RC student housing placement management, making final decisions on behalf of the RC on process and rules for new students entering the Residential College and getting housing in East Quad
- Supervise over RC Student Life administration and housing opportunities that pertain to the Residential College
- Lead and supervise the RC Live-Out Committee
- Be an active leader within the LSA MLC group
Manage Student Admissions Staff / Manage RC-Related Student Life Work
This position provides supervision of all admissions assistant student staff members and RC ambassadors, and is in charge of all supervisory functions of these positions. Overall, this position is responsible for 14-17 students on any given semester. This position provides training so that the students will be able to represent the Residential College in all aspects of admissions and recruitment. Managing and supervising the student temps and student ambassadors includes:
- Student Staff Supervision and Management
- Interview, hire, train, manage, coach and correct RC Admissions Assistants (4-7 student temp staff members per year).
- RC Ambassadors Supervision
- Interview, accept, on-board, train, coach and dismiss (if needed) RC Ambassadors (~10 per year) as student volunteers to promote the Residential College for recruitment.
- Train and create materials for RC Ambassadors so they are prepared to address questions and concerns prospective students and parents may have during Campus Day events.
- Create and manage professional development for RC Admissions Assistants.
Management of Report Analysis and Outreach for RC Admissions and Recruitment Office
Management of data collection and processing by creating reports in regards to application, admit and enroll statistics to RC administrative leadership team in the annual summary report.
RC Admissions and Recruitment Website Management
- Create and review website content that support recruiting strategies and goals through collaboration with the RC Marketing and Communications Specialist and Student Affairs Coordinator.
RC Admissions and Recruitment Social Media Management Support
- Create and collaborate with RC Student Affairs Coordinator, and Marketing and Communications Specialist to create and share content that promotes RC Admissions and Recruitment Goals
Required Qualifications
- An Associate's degree is required with at least four years of progressive work experience.
- Experience leading projects, along with the skills to demonstrate success in these programs.
- Experience promoting events and promoting audience engagement through media.
- Success working with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and collaborators in an inclusive and trust-inspiring manner.
- Experience working with office software (Google, Office Suites), database and information-collection software, and organizational tools.
- Reasonable knowledge of University policies, rules, and administrative procedures relating to student affairs is necessary. Reasonable knowledge of student counseling and guidance practices is necessary.
- Experience working in a higher education setting and ability to demonstrate the understanding of the value of a liberal arts education.Interest in student development and college academic affairs.
- Must be willing to speak in front of groups for tours and educational information sessions.
- Must be willing to travel on occasion for recruitment events (local).
The Residential College depends on our staff to worksuccessfullyin a team environment and independently. We are looking for someone who shows initiative; the desire to identify opportunities for changes to processes, procedures and tasks; and a willingness to assume additional responsibilities. High proficiency with information technology applications is required.
Desired Qualifications
A bachelor's degreeor equivalent with 5-7 years of experienceinAcademic Services, Admissions, Learning Communities or similar areas of administration is desirable. Other desired qualifications include a knowledge of LSApolicies and procedures, and a knowledge-base of MPathways and UM systems.
