Job Description

Under the supervision of the Associate Director, the Assistant Director will develop and implement strategies for international scholar/employee advising and document processing, front office processes, and campus internationalization programs and employment success initiatives for international employees administered by the International Students and Scholars Center (ISSC).

 

Salary Range

$55,000 - $65,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned staff.
  • Monitors work in progress upon completion.
  • Implements corrective action as required.
  • Provides leadership and/or support in the SEVIS Compliance audit projects throughout the semester including SEVIS/Sunapsis alerts, enrollment, medical insurance, new student/scholar reporting, and J-1 audits.
  • Serves as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) and Designated School Official (DSO).
  • Develops and delivers comprehensive international scholar pre-arrival and orientation programs to improve the onboarding of scholars/faculty on J-1, H-1B, TN, and E3 visas.
  • Provides immigration advice to international scholars and employees on H-1B, TN, and E-3 visas.
  • Develops budgets, performance indicators, and accountability reports for programs, workshops, and other events.
  • Co-leads and drives many of the communication, social media, and training efforts within the International Students and Scholars Center scholar/faculty team.
  • Assists with the development of long and short-range goals for the team and department.
  • Assists with the development of objectives and activities based on department international employment goals; including work with various ASU departments, HR staff training, and similar initiatives.
  • Acts as liaison with the students, faculty, staff, local community, and government agencies in supporting department and university international/employment success programs.
  • Represents the ISSC department and serve on various department and university committees as assigned.
  • Performs beyond OPT international student work authorization outreach and initiatives.
  • Creates and maintains structional materials and handbooks.
  • Acts in place of the Associate Director in their absence.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND six (6) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Ten (10) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Master’s degree in higher education, international education, intercultural communication, or related fields.
  • Experience as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) and Designated School Official (DSO).
  • Experience in filing Labor Condition Applications, Labor Certification Applications and I-140 Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker.
  • Experience in program budgeting, development, coordination, and evaluation.
  • Experience in cross-cultural communication.
  • Proficiency in the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data; ability to draw conclusions from data sets. Proficiency in SEVIS, Sunapsis, and Department of Labor database systems.

 

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse, frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.

The International Students and Scholars Center is comprised of a staff of trained experts, versed in the details and requirements of academic and employment-based programs, who provide visa and immigration advice and support to visiting students and scholars. These services include oversight of visa programs, planning and coordinating orientations for the international students, and assisting with visa and immigration for new students, staff, and scholars.
