Immigration Specialist (F-1 Specialist)
Position Description - Provides support to the institution’s immigration sponsorship and compliance efforts. Provide exemplary services for international faculty, scholars, and professionals at the institution. Maintains confidentiality of immigration matters.

Major/Essential Functions - Work with Managing Director (MD) to oversee immigration caseload from intake through processing and handle other responsibilities assigned to Immigration & Compliance Services (ICS).
Function as a Designated School Official (DSO) with legal signatory immigration documents (I-20) for F-1 international students. Maintain internal (education record, FSA) and external records (SEVIS) as required by law and regulations. Verify students required academic enrollment and register all SEVIS records accordingly each term the students are under the TTUHSC or TTU SEVIS records. Advise non-immigrant students on immigration regulations (maintenance of status, employment authorization, travel, and changes of status, etc.). Advise TTUHSC school officials on F-1 student maintenance of status and benefits issues. In conjunction with TTUHSC Provost’s office, advise international students on personal, academic, financial, and cultural issues. In conjunction with TTUHSC Provost’s office, design and deliver international student orientations each semester for all incoming F-1 international students. In coordination with TTUHSC Provost’s office, create and send pre-arrival information to all incoming international F-1 students. Request all required documentation needed to issue international documents from admitted students outlined in the application process. Create informational resources for international students and TTUHSC Schools to ensure proper knowledge and documentation of laws and regulations (ex. maintaining status, work authorization, and extensions/changes of status). Contribute input to yearly budgets for F-1 program participant minimum funding and documentation requirements. Create, review, and update F-1 student application process and requirements.
Under supervision, prepare and file temporary, non-immigrant and permanent, immigrant visa petitions and applications for sponsored employees.
Serve as a Department of State, Alternative Responsible Officer (ARO) for the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program.
Assist with internal reviews or audits of immigration-related data, processes, and documents.
Develop and maintain knowledge of immigration regulations and requirements, to include DSO training.
Assist with I-9/E-Verify cases for international students and employees.
Provides support to the institution, immigration sponsorship and compliance efforts. Provide exemplary services for international faculty, scholars, and professionals at the institution. Maintains confidentiality of immigration matters.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of experience in an administrative management, analyst, paralegal, or related position. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications - *** Experience with F visa status, to include serving as a SEVIS DSO in a moderate to high-volume setting. *** Experience with employment-based immigration filings, such as H-1B, O-1, TN, PERM Labor Certification. Applications (Regular and Academic), and I-140 Immigrant Visa petitions (EB-1, EB-2 (PERM-based and NIW)). Physician immigration experience a plus. Experience with drafting and supporting PERM application processes, to include Academic/Special Handling cases. Background in Human Resources and/or recruiting. Experience working in a higher education environment. Knowledge of immigration software.
