ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Execute international enrollment strategies, tactics and initiatives: Lead the International Admissions and Immigration Department in the continued cultivation of current markets and the identification and development of new target markets. Track and measure progress and outcomes; ensure work is assessed and adapted for efficiency and effectiveness; manage subsequent systems and software.  Understand the competitive market position and differentiators of Calvin in order to position and promote the institution.

Manage a comprehensive international admissions & immigration program: Attract, admit and retain international students and Americans living abroad to Calvin University’s graduate and undergraduate programs.

  1. Oversee and support the international admissions team’s efforts by traveling to sites, working with schools and international partners (e.g. EdUSA and international school systems), contacting prospective students and their families, reading applicant files, reviewing credentials, making admission committee recommendations, and developing communication strategies to guide prospective students through the process. Oversee training of the recruitment team for effective cross-cultural communication. Ensure staff are trained for recruitment and immigration support. Maintain effective recruitment tactics specific to international audiences. Set and ensure service levels and response times, establish appropriate communication techniques and methods of communication for international audiences, and maintain accuracy of information. Analyze current enrollment data related to Calvin University student recruiting by reviewing current and historical enrollment and geographic data to identify and develop sources and contacts for reaching potential students. Oversee processes in our CRM for international recruitment, seeking continuous improvement of systems for the student recruitment experience. Collaborate with the Enrollment Systems and Operations team to implement improvements to processes. Keep up to date with changes in the landscape of international education and immigration by becoming an active member of appropriate national and regional organizations, including NAFSA. Supervise the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) and serve as backup DSO in emergencies. Maintain relevant strategies and up-to-date policies.

Ensure optimal deployment of college resources: Implement financial review and verification of applicants as part of admission eligibility. Work on currency conversions and communicating with families regarding financial statements, assets, and other documentation. Train team accordingly. And, in partnership with vice president and director of financial aid, establish financial aid strategies for international recruitment that support divisional and university goals. Deploy operating budget effectively in support of enrollment and financial aid goals.

Communicate and collaborate with others involved with recruiting and admitting students to insure appropriate enrollment management and planning.

Establish and maintain contact with current international students and faculty members who travel abroad to extend recruitment efforts.  Represent the International Admissions & Immigration Department by participating in meetings of the Strategic Leadership Team, with the Student Life division, the Committee on Admissions, and other entities within and outside of Calvin University as appropriate. Work cross-divisionally on projects related to global partnerships and international engagement. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This person is responsible for supervising the Associate Director of Immigration and the International Admissions team members.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree required; master's degree preferred. Progressive experience in management, leadership and supervision of professional staff in admissions or related enrollment field. 7+ years of related work experience, of which 3+ years are in international admissions, international education and/or immigration.

Enthusiastic supporter of Christian higher education and the goals of Calvin University Proficiency in other languages in addition to English is desirable
