Overview
The A.C.T. Specialist will coordinate admissions, monitor compliance with COMAR Regulations, and coordinate transitions for a varied population of students in a private separate day school for students with disabilities.
At the Fairmount Campus, we are committed to providing special education program in which the uniqueness of each student is valued and understood. We want to enable students to reach their potential in all aspects of life - academically, socially and behaviorally - and help lead them toward the ultimate goal of nurturing their independence now and in the future.
Our curriculum focuses on building essential skills based on standards and curricula identified by the Maryland State Department of Education. Students receive ongoing instruction in reading/English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education, health, music, fine arts and career development.
We are a nonpublic special education day program approved by the Maryland State Department of Education. We operate on an 11-month program schedule.
Responsibilities
Maintain documentation of all contacts with parents/guardians, agency representatives, administration and colleagues regarding student progress and concerns as needed. Serve as liaison with State and Local Education Agencies. Assemble new student records and assist in the coordination of student records. Facilitate IEP Team Meetings. Facilitate the Referral/Intake/Acceptance-Rejection process for prospective school candidates. Facilitate student transitions to prospective schools for students who are leaving our program. Facilitate the communication of new student data and changes in student status to the business office. Coordinate and/or conduct student transition interviews for the campus school programs. Facilitate the processing of requests for student information by outside agencies and family members. Maintain communication with clinical department regarding all transition-related issues pertaining to students. Participate in and contribute to in-services in a professional and collegial manner.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Bachelors Degree in Special Education or appropriate content area is required.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of two years experience in position-related field is required.
RELATED TRAINING:
PCM training will be provided by department. Employee must achieve and maintain certification at the "Practitioner" level (or higher) according to the timeline established within the departmental policy.

- MSDE SPC, APC, or Conditional certificate preferred but not required.
