Director, Advising, Admissions, and Financial Aid - Generation Park

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Director serves as the leader for most student services activities on the campus and is responsible for leading, supervising, evaluating, coordinating, and directing all admission, advising, dual credit, financial aid, career services, student success and retention initiatives, as well as the college wide virtual advisors. The Director collaborates with the Executive Director and Director, Instructional Services to meet the ongoing needs of the student population at Generation Park.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Supervise, coordinate, and direct campus educational planning, admissions, dual credit, financial aid, career services, student success initiatives, retention, and completion activities.
  • Collaborate with counterparts to ensure consistent and uniform application of all functions, processes, and services within educational planning, admissions, dual credit, financial aid, career services, student engagement, student success initiatives, retention, and completion across the College.
  • Interview, select, train, supervise, and evaluate a diverse staff through the performance management system. Make appropriate staffing recommendations in accordance with College policies and procedures.
  • Participates in student recruitment initiatives for Generation Park including communications with prospective students, recruitment initiatives and processes, recruitment events, and establish effective relationships with local high schools, external agencies, and in the community.
  • Coordinate and direct the activities of the office, manage the budget for educational planning, admissions, dual credit, financial aid, career services, student success initiatives retention, and completion. Approve payroll, maintain office schedules, and monitor customer service.
  • Provide support and direction under urgent circumstances to staff administering mental health and crisis counseling as needed.
  • Coordinate graduation application process and assists with commencement activities.
  • Monitor retention interventions that address the characteristics and needs of a diverse population.
Additional Job Functions:
  • Facilitate timely, professional communication and problem resolution strategies with students.
  • Consult and collaborate with the Dean of Student Development - North Campus, to plan, implement, and evaluate the plans and services of the campus through data analysis. Submit monthly and annual written reports including professional improvement and growth activities.
  • Represent SJC with outside educational institutions, internal departments, and professional organizations. Serve as department liaison and on campus/college committees as requested.
  • Communicate with students to resolve issues related to educational planning, counseling, admissions, enrollment, financial aid, orientation, testing, career services, student engagement, student success initiatives, and retention.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Maintain a personal and professional commitment to the college values and the success of SJC and its students.
  • Must be team-oriented with the ability to work well with other staff and faculty members in the development and administration of programs within Student Services as well as throughout the college.
  • Excellent oral & written communication, interpersonal, organizations and presentation skills as well as possess personal computer literacy.
  • Be knowledgeable of and responsive to FERPA law and regulations.
  • Ability to manage numerous tasks simultaneously as well as develop new projects and programs with little supervision.
  • Ability to safeguard sensitive and/or confidential information from intentional or unintentional disclosure.
  • Ability to meet deadlines for assigned reports and projects.
  • Ability to interview, select, train, supervise, and evaluate a diverse population of personnel.
  • Ability to provide feedback, support, and encouragement to staff members.
  • Ability to perform all the essential functions of the position.
Required Education:
  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited college/university required.
  • 2 or more years of supervisory experience.
Required Experience:
  • Five or more years of experience providing various modes of educational planning, advising, financial aid, admissions, or registration in a community college system.
  • Experience in educational planning, academic advising, financial aid, and admissions.
  • Experience with creating and fostering student success, retention and completion.
  • Working knowledge of current financial aid regulations.
Preferred Experience:
  • Budget management experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with Banner Student Systems or other student database software systems preferred.

Salary Grade: 120
