Professional Time Type: Full time Position Term: 12 Month Position Details: Summary of Duties: The Nursing Student Advisor position in the College of Nursing (CON) provides critical academic advisement to potential, in-coming, and current students in the CON BSN programs (pre-licensure BSN and the RN-to-BSN). Responsibilities include but are not limited to: evaluation of transcripts for transfer credit/course equivalency; determination of prerequisites, interpretation and verification of departmental and university requirements; preparation and submission of graduation applications; counsel of students experiencing difficulties in program progression and course success; counsel of students experiencing financial, housing, and/or food insecurity; preparation and submission of student appeal forms and letters; providing letters of recommendation for student awards and/or scholarships; and advisement of students' academic plans of study; and counsel with faculty, task forces or committees re: student concerns and issues; and provision of student workshops. The Advisor also has responsibilities in the area of recruitment, retention, and administration. Occasional travel to national or regional conferences for professional development or to other campuses to complete responsibilities will be required. Essential Duties: • Advising - 55% • Admissions - 20% • Recruitment and Retention - 10% • Administration - 10% • Other - 5% Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and three (3) years academic advising or related experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional academic advising experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Positions who will lead or supervisor will require one or more years of full-time experience leading or directing the work of others. Additional Requirements: • Demonstrated excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills. • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office including Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word. • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and positively in a diverse team environment and a diverse student population. • Demonstrated computer software skills, including the ability to use office software such as databases, spreadsheets, word processing. • Demonstrated ability to prioritize job tasks effectively. • Experience conducting presentations. • Demonstrated public speaking skills/experience. • Demonstrated skills in leadership. • Valid Driver's License by the time of hire Preferred Qualifications: • Master's degree in related field. • Experience providing student services in a higher education institution. • Experience working with diverse faculty, students and staff. • Understanding of and ability to apply WSU policies and procedures as related to student records and undergraduate program requirements. • Knowledge of curriculum management practices, processes and policies. • Experience working with and maintaining student records • Familiarity with Washington State University academic rules and regulations.
