Job Summary

The College of Education at Oregon State University invites applications for an Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs (ADASA), with an accompanying Associate or Full Professor appointment. The incumbent will hold two appointments, a 0.75 FTE, 12-month professional faculty position as Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, and a 0.25 FTE, 9-month, tenured, academic faculty, Associate/Full Professor position; reflecting duties in both academic and administrative areas.The incumbent will serve as Associate Dean for an initial period of 3 years at the discretion of the Dean.

The ADASA for the College of Education will be an integral part of the College Leadership Team (LT), working closely with the Dean, Associate Dean for Research, Dean's Office Staff, Department Heads, Student Services Staff, faculty and the students, as stakeholders, to advance the academic and student service mission of the College. The ADASA will collaborate with the LT in developing and implementing the strategic plan of the College. The ADASA will provide leadership for faculty in the development of policies and programs related to curriculum, academic affairs, student services, and teaching- and learning-related partnerships and outreach in order to improve student recruitment, retention, and success with a special focus on underrepresented students. The ADASA will integrate, advocate, and advance equity and inclusive excellence within all aspects of their work.

As a faculty member, they will provide expertise in undergraduate and graduate teaching in their respective areas of expertise along with a strong record of scholarly success with promise of ongoing research contributions commensurate to the rank of associate professor or "full" professor with indefinite tenure.

Key Responsibilities

75% Associate Dean:

Student Success
•Oversee student recruitment efforts, working closely with the Recruiter, Advisors, and Program Leads.
•Liaise with the Office of Admissions and the Graduate School to connect policies and resources to support recruitment and retention matters.
•Work closely with the CoEd Advisors, Program Leads, Department Heads, and faculty on advising and retention matters for both undergraduate and graduate student populations.
•Lead the College in efforts for continuous improvement of undergraduate and graduate programs supporting student success and equity. This includes, but is not limited to, strengthening cross-campus collaborations and aligning student-centered advising practices to decrease barriers to student success.
•Collaborate with the College advising staff in their respective portfolios, including but not limited to the following programs: new student orientation, student recruitment, student events, Peer Ambassadors, Recruitment and Retention Task Force, transfer student support, and DEI initiatives. Collaborate with the Career Development Center and their programming to help students improve their career-readiness.
•Lead the College in the development, interpretation, and implementation of College policies improving student success across student populations related to academic and student affairs.
•Provide support for and leadership of external funding applications for student and program support.

Scholarship Awards Oversight
•Working with the Executive Assistant, provides oversight to the student scholarship process, including application and evaluation of application processes in the College.
•Provide training for and education of the scholarship process to stakeholders within the College.
•Work with the Marketing and Communication staff to promote scholarships.
•Convenes stakeholders to discuss and create new policies and procedures related to the scholarship process.
•Serve as primary liaison to the Scholarship Office.

Curriculum & Program Development and Administration
•Maintain a strategic view of the College's academic programs, relationships, and activities.
•Serve as the contact for and liaison with the Graduate School, Academic Affairs, Ecampus, and the Registrar's Office to interpret and implement academic policies and procedures.
•Serves as a main point of contact for the Program Leads related to curricula and academic programs and/or College-specific issues, including but not limited to attendance at regular Leads' meetings.
•Serve as the contact for and liaison with the Cascades campus in program development and coordination.
•Convene and lead the faculty in the development and revision of curriculum and new program development in the College.
•Act as the Dean's designee for the approval of curriculum proposals, providing guidance and support as an ex-officio member of the College Curriculum Committee and department curriculum efforts, working with other colleges at cross-coordination of curricula among programs at OSU, and represent the College on the University Education Council.
•Liaise with faculty and Department Heads to provide leadership and support innovation in curriculum development (including Ecampus) and instructional approaches.
•Supervise and oversee the Professional Development for Educators (PDE) program, providing non-credit options for the College, and convene faculty and academic programs in the production of new non-credit courses and certificates.

Co-curriculum Development, International Relations, and Campus Relations
•Work to build relationships and partner across campus with programs and units aimed at student success and support. These groups include but are not limited to: Academic Success Center, LSAMP, Education Opportunities Program, Diversity Cultural Engagement, Community Engagement and Leadership, Undergraduate Research Scholarship and the Arts (URSA), and the Career Development Center.
•Serve as the College liaison for the Open Educational Resources initiative.
•Partner with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Financial Aid, and Disability Access Services to assist students with academic access, mental health, and financial challenges.
•Partner with International Programs, INTO OSU, OSU GO to coordinate international partnerships and liaison with the Office of International Services.

Student Conduct and Concerns
•Serve as the Dean's designee responsible for the review of all academic integrity cases, serving as the Conduct Officer for the College of Education.
•Serve as the primary liaison with the Office of the Dean of Students, connecting Department Heads and faculty with the Student Care Team, Threat Assessment Team, and Student Conduct and Community Standards staff.
•Beyond Departments, serve as the next-level contact with students who have concerns about their experiences in the College, working as the student's advocate when necessary.

College Leadership
•Participate in strategic planning efforts and operational decision-making as part of the College Leadership Team.
•Perform additional duties as assigned by the Dean and represents the Dean, as needed.

25% Associate/Full Professor:

Teaching and Advising: Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and advising/mentoring graduate students as appropriate in their scholastic academic, research, and professional development.

Research: Conducting and publishing research in peer-reviewed outlets recognized as relevant to research conducted and demonstrative that the individual's scholarship has (inter)national distinction. Writing and submitting grant proposals and securing external funding.

Service: Providing active service to degree program, college, and university as well as through relevant professional associations.

What You Will Need

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION AS ASSOCIATE DEAN:

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education, Counseling, Higher Education, or a related discipline.
  • Significant record of scholarly achievement that merits appointment as tenured full or tenured associate professor in the CoEd.
  • At least 3 years of leadership experience at the program, department, or college level.
  • Administrative experience at a management level.
  • Documented success in program leadership and development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and university groups.
  • Evidence of ability to lead collaboratively and collegially in administrative, teaching, research, and service settings.
  • Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Evidence of successfully integrating social justice principles in teaching practices at the postsecondary level, including evidence of meeting needs of learners from underrepresented backgrounds.
  • A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION AS ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR:
  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education, Counseling, Higher Education, or a related discipline.
  • Significant record of scholarly achievement that merits appointment as tenured full or tenured associate professor in the CoEd.
  • Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Research program and/or teaching experience in AI in K-20 Education or Counseling; multilingualism in K-20 Education or Counseling; Educational Administration; Literacy; Social Work; Special Education; STEM Education; and/or Student Affairs in Higher Education.
  • Evidence of successfully integrating social justice principles in teaching practices at the postsecondary level, including evidence of meeting needs of learners from underrepresented backgrounds.
  • A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
