Summary

The International Students Coordinator leads all aspects of the International student program, including study abroad, field studies, non-credit international experiences, and international student recruitment and support. The Coordinator provides leadership for International Campus Programming. The Coordinator serves as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) and serves as a liaison between the international student and various on-campus departments.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) for the Department of Homeland Security Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certification and International Student Advisor for international students attending Illinois Central College on an F-1 visa.
  • Update and maintain student records in the Department of Homeland Security Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
  • Complete functions of PDSO and DSO as directed by SEVIS responsibilities
  • Provide advice on all visa types for students, and employees on visas including J, H, B, TN, L and others.
  • Manage the process of international student acceptance, enrollment, retention, and completion, including documenting all steps in the process and maintaining necessary documentation and meetings with students for compliance of immigration status.
  • Advise and coordinate services for the international students, including, but not limited to F1 students.
  • Assist in the Advising Department as needed.
  • Counsel international students on personal, financial, academic, and other matters, including making referrals as appropriate. Provide resources to students and serve as contact person for on and off campus resources.
  • Manage the process (from recruitment to articulation of credit) for study abroad programs students.
  • Continual management of policies and procedures for ICC students traveling abroad, including safety, insurance, behavioral expectations, and other functions such as medical evacuation and repatriation of remains.
  • Provide leadership for international campus programming and events at ICC, including but not limited to, primary advisor for student International Club
  • Know, understand, and act in accordance with Illinois Central College's Cougar CARE Principles, including connecting with students, building relationships, acting promptly and professionally, and working with a team.

  • Minimum Qualifications

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
    • Bachelor's degree preferably in International Studies or International Education.
    • Two years of direct experience in international student advising in an academic setting working with USCIS policies and procedures and Department of Homeland Security policies and procedures.
    • Must meet qualifications for Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) as defined by the Department of Homeland Security.
    • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Strong leadership skills.
    • Strong multi-tasking, organizational and prioritization skills.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Master's degree in a related field.
    • Fluency in at least one language in addition to English.
    • Experience assisting with Visa processes.
