Position Summary:
This is a twelve-month full-time, exempt position. This position will report directly to the School Director and will provide advising and support to undergraduate and graduate students, assist faculty and staff with daily operations, and coordinate program processes and events across undergraduate and graduate degree and licensure areas.
Academic Advising
● Serves as primary advisor for students in all Teacher Education Programs including:
● Meets with prospective students to discuss degree options and teacher licensure pathways
● Makes initial contact with teacher education majors and other licensure candidates to establish general education requirements and degree plans
● Coordinates all major/minor/advisor assignments and changes for Elementary Education majors and assists in coordinating with secondary and K-12 majors, including communication to various departments.
● Coordinates with transfer coordinator to ensure credits for transferring undergraduate students are correctly applied to degree plans.
● Documents graduate student request for course substitutions by reviewing course syllabi and determining, in conjunction with the department chair, whether the substation request is valid; and upon approval by School Director, submitting substitution request in Degree Works.
● Coordinates with the office of academic affairs, financial aid, admissions, financial aid, and other offices/departments on campus to identify and remove barriers to student advising, registration, enrollment, and participation in undergraduate courses.
● Coordinates with the office of graduate studies, financial aid, and other offices/departments on campus to identify and remove barriers to student advising, registration, enrollment, and participation in graduate courses.
● Coordinates student support services for undergraduate elementary majors and assists in coordinating student support services for undergraduate secondary and K-12 majors.
● Reviews and finalizes degree plans for all undergraduate and graduate teacher education students.
● Maintains accurate student records with regard to advising in the University's student information system
● Ensures that adequate data on academic advising and student success is collected, maintained, and disseminated to the School Director, the Office of Academic Affairs, the Office of Student Services, and other appropriate entities, in an appropriate format, on a pre-determined schedule.
● Completes degree checks for all undergraduate and graduate teacher education students
● Communicates graduate information/requirements to all undergraduate and graduate students
● Verifies eligibility of undergraduate and graduate teacher education students to graduate to the Registrar and documents eligibility in the University's student information system.
● Monitors the University's admissions system for notifications for updates on graduate student admissions to the department.
● Verifies eligibility of students to enroll in upper division courses and/or student teach based on state licensure requirements and departmental requirements and advises students accordingly.
● Initiates department interventions for students who have not met academic program or state licensure requirements by developing a remediation plan for the student.
● Provides exit counseling for students removed from the teacher education program.
● Provides technical assistance to students around areas of course registration, licensure, and course access.
● Provides career counseling to students Serves as liaison between students and faculty regarding coursework or program inquiries and concerns.
Program Coordinator
● Collaborates with on-campus faculty to develop and refine undergraduate and graduate programs and course syllabi
● Coordinates with off-campus stakeholders, the Office of Graduate Studies, and the Office of Extended Studies to recruit, retain and serve students in the C&I STEM program.
● Coordinates with other college staff to create, maintain, assess, and modify the student enrollment/onboarding process.
● Coordinates with other college staff to create, maintain, assess, and modify intervention strategies to increase student success, retention, and completion
● Collaborates with other divisions on campus in the development of schedules, policies and operational procedures.
● Develops and implements recruitment plan for undergraduate and graduate programs
● Leads identification and development of new academic pathways for undergraduate and graduate students in Teacher Education.
● Oversees the process and production of articulation agreements between Colorado Community Colleges and other public four-year institutions across the state.
● Oversees marketing of undergraduate and graduate teacher education programs
● Coordinates with Communications office to design, produce, and distribute marketing materials for undergraduate and graduate programs
● Shares oral and written information with prospective and current students regarding undergraduate and graduate Teacher Education programs and licensure pathways.
● Maintains copies of student academic records, license verification forms, field service logs, advising documents, and other documentation for undergraduate and graduate programs.
● Oversees program admissions processes including:
● Oversees student teaching admission process including:
● Assesses student dispositions in accordance with departmental program objectives, student learning outcomes, and state licensure standards
● Initiates interventions for students who are struggling academically, personally, or professionally by coordinating with faculty and or other student support services to address student needs.
● Resolves or facilitates resolution of student issues that do not require School Director approval.
● Maintains academic calendar for undergraduate and graduate programs
● Coordinates placement of undergraduate teacher education students in local schools with field services coordinator based on content area, grade level, district preference, and other contingencies.
● Develops and implements field service trainings for undergraduate students and student teachers
● Assists department faculty with developing and implementing trainings and supports for field service mentor teachers
● Develops and implements program orientations for all undergraduate and graduate students
● Develops and distributes program documents including degree plans, advising forms, degree maps, handbooks, etc. for internal use and publication on the website
● Manages social media accounts for the School of Education
● Manages web pages for all undergraduate and graduate programs and coordinates with Communications Office regarding updates and changes.
● Oversees data entry and coding in the University's student information system, including, but not limited to: Admission and deletion of students, updating student status, cohort coding, and uploading of Praxis scores.
● Coordinates with Office of Institutional Effectiveness to review data and reports prior to submission of state and federal reports.
● Serves as secondary licensing officer for the department, providing verification to State Departments of Education that students have met licensure requirements and are eligible to receive licensure.
● Directly Supervises program assistant
● Assists School Director in developing course schedules for fall, spring, and summer terms.
● Assists School Director in supervising and update academic catalog for the School of Education
● Assists Administrative Assistant with building courses and making recommendations for course additions/deletions based on enrollment
● Assists the School Director in identifying and communicating with adjunct faculty for undergraduate and graduate programs.
● Assists the school Director and faculty in writing 5-year state reauthorization report for undergraduate and graduate licensure areas.
● Serves as School representative for on-campus student recruitment and retention events including new student orientation, Discover Days, Registration nights, etc.
● Participates in campus, community, and state committees as a representative of the School of Education
● Initiates and pursues strategic collaborations with local school districts and other stakeholders to enhance quality of undergraduate and graduate programs.
● Manages other events as needed
● Other duties as assigned.
Salary and Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $42,252 - $48,060 commensurate with experience and education. - Distributes student teaching packets to senior block students
- Collects student teacher application packets and reviewing to ensure they are complete
- Reviewing transcripts and student teaching applications to ensure all program and state licensure requirements (i.e. passing score on Praxis) have been met
- Assists faculty field service coordinator in the placement of student teachers in school districts
- Assists faculty field services coordinator in scheduling and delivering student teacher orientation each semester
- Distributes, collects and maintains all program verification forms (i.e. verification of training; knowledge of professional expectations, knowledge of licensure requirements, etc.), in accordance with department policy and stat licensure requirements
