As a Senior Education Abroad Advisor for the Office of Global Learning, you will lead the advising, enrollment management, and overall administration for your study abroad portfolio. You will oversee exchange relationships and exchange students at Cornell and directly support promotion and outreach. You will report to the Senior Associate Director of Education Abroad and form an integral part of a team of advisors that is supported by a larger cross-office structure of administration and systems, outreach and programming coordination, and financial management. Your specific responsibilities will include:

  • Function as the primary contact for students, staff and faculty, and program representatives affiliated with one’s assigned set programs.
  • Develop and deliver appropriate information materials for recruiting, advising, and pre-departure preparation for outgoing Cornell students.
  • Ensure current knowledge of the curriculum, degree requirements, and academic policies of Cornell’s colleges and familiarity with the various Cornell majors and minors.
  • Support outgoing Cornell students for your portfolio through advising, application, onboarding, departure, during and upon return.
  • Align with Education Abroad advising and enrollment management practices and policies and Global Operations health and safety policy and incident response protocol.
  • Cultivate relationships with faculty and college advisors to assess the curricular fit of current program options and to propose areas for future development.
  • Lead on the development, promotion, and management of Cornell Global Hubs programs and other approved programs making up your portfolio.
  • Engage in promotion and outreach in line with Office of Global Learning strategy and objectives and in collaboration with campus units and off-campus partners.
  • Support incoming international exchange students through application, onboarding, arrival, and orientation. Work in collaboration with relevant academic units and offices across the university to ensure exchange student inclusion and success.
  • In collaboration with the Office of Global Learning programming coordinator and other campus units, plan and deliver an orientation program and social events to incoming exchange students throughout the academic year.

We need an organized and student-focused team-player who is enthusiastic about studying abroad and can manage the process and the partnerships. Ideally, you will have spent time abroad as a student or professionally or you have been in the U.S. as an international student or employee. Additionally, you will have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with two years previous relevant professional experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to distill and convey information effectively to multiple audiences, including students, parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Knowledge of principles and issues of study abroad advising, intercultural competency, and engaged learning.
  • Familiarity with international higher education systems and different program models for study abroad.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, maintain, and nurture international relationships.

In addition to the above, we would prefer you to have:

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience living, working, or studying abroad.
  • Experience in a variety of international activities, particularly exchange relationships and programming for incoming international students.
  • Previous experience with study abroad application management software (e.g., TerraDotta, Via) and/or web-based data-management tools (e.g., Salesforce).
