Advises Jefferson visitors and scholars on immigration, academic, and life issues as they pursue studies, employment, volunteer opportunities and observational activities on campus and in the hospital. Oversees all data management for OIA and OIP and IT functions, including website management and upkeep. Manages document processes through SEVIS. Orients new arrivals and visiting groups. Prepares annual reports for internal and external use.
Alternates Responsible Officer for J1 programs and back-up Designated School Officer for F1 programs
Assists in updating www.jefferson.edu/international_affairs regularly with self-initiated content
As ARO: Advises and updates departments on processes; authorizes and issue forms DS-2019; Advises J-1 students, scholars, visitors on visa procurement, entry and status maintenance following NAFSA Ethics Principles. Independent judgment is required to choose best course of action within federal guidelines.
Serves as primary point of contact for individual new visitors on campus; meets with scholars for check-ins with both schedule appointments and walk-ins
Develops and deliver special programs/events for Office of International Affairs (e.g., L.K. Black Symposium)
Minimum two years working with people of diverse cultures and varying levels of English proficiency. Preferred experience working with international scholars and students/visitors.
Significant ability to use informed judgment in sometimes intense situations is necessary. Flexibility, accountability and reliability are needed for this position. Must meet both U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s requirements to be a DSO for F-1 programs and the U.S. Department of State’s requirements to be an Alternate Responsible Officer for the J-1 Exchange Visitor programs (must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States). Must have excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work well with all members of the university community. Flexibility is essential in this job as is patience with speakers of languages other than English or those with limited English language proficiency
