This position is in the Center for Experiential Learning at the Olin Business School. This position is for the Danforth Campus.
The Director has responsibility and oversight for all Center for Experiential Learning (CEL) program and Center operations including management of staff, planning and allocation of budget, maintaining and developing programs and initiatives, strategic planning (working with the Academic Director (AD) and faculty to establish goals and success metrics) and providing Center leadership by building morale and enthusiasm for the CEL with both internal stakeholders and external organizations/partners. This includes establishing and managing the operational controls and processes necessary to enable growth in student enrollment and community engagement and identifying and managing strategic partnerships as necessary to ensure growth and momentum.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Relationship Management, Business Development, and Marketing
Manage and develop relationships and partnerships internally (with University personnel) and externally (partners/clients in the global community) to advance experiential learning activities in support of the Olin Business School’s mission.
Identify and cultivate new opportunities for partnerships and projects nationally and internationally
Build trusted advisor relationships with clients through an understanding of clients’ needs and ensuring recommendation of appropriate solutions with and through the CEL’s programs and student talent
Maintain and further develop relationships with existing CEL external partners (both corporations and non-profits) to ensure ongoing project opportunities for Washington University students
Manage the brand for Olin’s CEL and ensure it is well developed/represented internally and externally
Develop and implement a recruiting strategy for Washington University in St. Louis student by developing and maintaining integrated connections with students and student organizations to help identify and recruit top student talent to participate in CEL projects
2. Operational Oversight/Administration and Personnel Management
Maintain overall responsibility for management of CEL personnel. This includes hiring decisions, disciplinary actions, work schedules and performance evaluations
Oversee all essential functions related to budget planning and allocation across CEL programs and initiatives. Develop the yearly budget for the CEL as well as monitor the same throughout the year with responsibility for expenditures
Ensure comprehensive collection of data related to CEL operations – and effective use (e.g. prepare internal and external reports)
Develop, direct, implement, and evaluate information systems pertaining to inquiries and projects by establishing expertise in the various systems. Conduct systems evaluation with business data processing personnel to develop more appropriate systems (and incorporate new technology) where applicable
3. Project Management and Instruction
Have overall responsibility for the sales and delivery of management consulting project results submitted to CEL clients – including definition of project objectives, scope of work, and project infrastructure for existing programs and newly established initiatives
Identify and resolve issues internally and externally by resolving misaligned or misguided expectations and/or issues CEL clients may have with deliverables as well as ensuring that students have adequate information to meet expectations. Mentor students in skill development.
Ensure that a system for evaluative interviews with student candidates where necessary to select and match students to projects.
Ensure off-site student teams are accompanied for project work at client sites and provide oversight for student-client interactions. This will involve travel to international destinations.
Develop and execute operational review/improvement and quality control efforts across programs as the Center scales operations. This includes the definition of an end-to-end project management process/playbook for the CEL
4. Planning and Strategy
Work with Academic Director and faculty to define metrics for success in both learning goals for our students and project outcomes for our external partners
Ensure connectivity between CEL Programs in both process and experience/outcome (clients and students)
Identify opportunities to improve project (and learning) outcomes – working with Academic Director. Plan and execute measures necessary to achieve success (including development of processes designed to reduce variability and improve outcomes)
Measure business and community impact of CEL activities, working with Academic Director
Work with Academic Director and faculty to identify opportunities for growth for CEL programs and initiatives. Organize resources and personnel to execute on related efforts
Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of related management experience.
Demonstrated ability to lead, build and scale programs and initiatives, manage and develop a team/staff, develop student capabilities, manage projects, coordinate with many diverse audiences/stakeholders, identify and develop new business opportunities and strategic partnerships, and actively engage in and manage strategic planning efforts.
MBA and 5 + years of related work experience
The hiring range for this position is $60,801 - $79,092 annually.

Applicant Special Instructions:
Office and staff will be located primarily in Simon Hall, but majority of work will be conducted in buildings across campus and on site with Center clients and strategic partners in St. Louis and around the globe.
Overtime in evenings or weekends during heavy workload periods and for special events will frequently be required.
Traveling off site to meet external constituents is required.
The Director will be frequently required to travel to lead teams and to attend experiential learning conferences or events nationally and internationally.
