To support our diverse student body, Knox seeks an enthusiastic international educator to serve as Director of International Student Services. The Director will develop and implement a robust international student advising and retention program, plan orientation events, provide support for international student clubs and organizations, engage the local community in a host family and friendship program, and advise students about issues related to cultural differences, American academic culture, employment, and visa regulations. The Director will work collaboratively with colleagues in both Student Development and Admission and may also be involved in international admission and recruitment activities, which could include representing Knox to prospective students and their families abroad, conducting admission interviews, and evaluating applications.
Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of prior experience in advising international students, preferably in a residential academic setting, are required. A Master’s degree is preferred
Knowledge of current trends and issues in international higher education and professional standards in student advising
Sensitivity to intercultural communication and a thorough understanding of the cultural, social, and personal experiences faced when crossing cultures
Experience living abroad and competency in a language other than English is highly desirable
Familiarity with the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and regulations pertaining to non-immigrant student visas
As required by the United States Department of Homeland Security, the successful candidate must be either a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident of the United States
