Job Summary: Provide program and personal support to International students with regard to academic, personal, and related issues. Refer students to the appropriate administrative offices and/or departments. Advise international students on occupational, academic, personal, and related issues; serve as liaison between students, college and immediate community. Conduct international student orientation and provide follow up support. Design and execute programs and activities that bridge the international student experience and the Hilbert College domestic student experience. Work closely with the College Admissions Office and the Office of Residence Life. Supervise International Peer Counselors (IPC). Be willing to serve as one of several Designated School Official (DSO), as required by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), formerly known as the INS. This is a 12-month position.
Requirements/Qualifications: Familiarity with experience of International Students (and expatriate Americans). Familiarity with and understanding of Federal and State Governments rules pertaining to international students. Ability to work with diverse populations. Sensitivity and orientation to be successful in a church-related, liberal arts setting. Must be able to drive a car and/or van to transport students and host throughout the metropolitan area. Fluent in English; ability to speak other languages in addition to English desired. Must have a valid driver’s license. Able to work Monday – Friday regular office hours, some evenings and weekends required. BA/BS degree in a related field required, MA/MS degree in College Student Development or related field preferred. Experience working with international students, developing programs and events. Cross-cultural, and/or multi-cultural experience. Experience in an academic setting working with diverse student life programs and services desired. Quality experience with international travel and/or studying abroad preferred.
