NYUAD seeks an Executive Director of Advancement & Philanthropy (DAP) to serve as the chief advancement officer for NYU Abu Dhabi’s Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO). S/he will be the strategic leader for the oversight, planning and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising and alumni relations program focused on securing significant financial resources from individuals, alumni, and friends of NYUAD.
Along with New York University Shanghai (NYUSH) and New York University New York (NYUNY), NYUAD is one of the University’s three degree-granting campuses. These campuses, together with 11 academic centers in leading cities on six continents, comprise NYU’s global network, giving it an international reach unmatched by any other university.
Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor of NYUAD, Mariët Westermann, and the Senior Vice President for University Development and Alumni Relations at NYU, Bob Cashion. The Executive Director will lead a talented and experienced team engaged in securing gifts from a broad array of constituents. He/she will be part of the next generation of leadership and will work to craft a comprehensive and strategic advancement plan that capitalizes on NYUAD’s stellar reputation, academic excellence, and dedicated community.
The Executive Director is responsible for the ongoing leadership, management, evaluation, and professional development of the staff within the NYUAD development and alumni relations office and for providing innovative leadership in all areas related to development, including the annual fund, corporation and foundation relations, planned giving, major gifts, donor relations and stewardship, prospect research and management, alumni relations, and special events. The Executive Director will partner with the Vice Chancellor, Provost and other senior development staff in the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of NYUAD’s donors and friends, and continue building strategic relationships for NYUAD's future endeavours.
The ideal candidate for this Executive Director will have substantial and successful experience with organizational growth and change. The Executive Director will be a successful major and/or principal gift fund raiser who understands and appreciates the entirety of the advancement enterprise, including especially the import of a robust alumni relations program. Superior communication and relationship-building skills are required, and candidates with a history of proactive relationship-building across the faculty and academic leadership of a complex institution will be at a particular advantage. Personal resonance with NYUAD’s mission and values will be particularly advantageous, as will an understanding and familiarity with the philanthropic marketplace in the Middle East.
