Southwestern University has an immediate opening for a full-time Assistant Director of Study Abroad and International Student Services in the Office of Study Abroad and International Student Services which provides guidance and assistance to Southwestern students who wish to study abroad as well as international students completing coursework at Southwestern University.
Primary duties involve: advising students regarding study abroad options with the goal of identifying the best program(s) to fit the student’s academic, financial, and personal needs; assisting with campus events (planning, logistics, promotion, and execution); updating study abroad marketing materials; developing and updating training materials; reading and evaluating study abroad applications to provide input for the student approval process; nurturing, building, and sustaining ongoing professional relationships with prospective study abroad students and those who influence them to achieve study abroad enrollment goals; collaborating with the Director on international student events (including International Student Orientation and the Study Abroad Mentor Program); supervising student workers; conducting presentations on campus; processing student study abroad applications; maintaining the Office of Study Abroad and International Student Services Facebook page, Instagram and Twitter accounts; and updating international student records in SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System).
Requirements include: a Bachelor’s degree; at least one year of work experience with study abroad in a higher education setting, preferably at an institution similar to Southwestern University; personal experience in an academic study abroad program; ability to work both independently and as a part of a team; excellent organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple projects at once while managing time and logistics with a keen attention to detail; and excellent intercultural, verbal, written, and communication skills. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident as required by the Department of Homeland Security for Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) access.
Preferred Position Requirements: at least three years of work experience with study abroad in a higher education setting, preferably at an institution similar to Southwestern University; experience working with international students; experience working with SEVIS; experience managing a student staff.
