The Assistant Director for International Student Engagement is a member of the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) office within Global Engagement and International Support Services (GEISS) at The New School and reports to the Associate Director for ISSS. The Assistant Director shares in the comprehensive development and management of ISSS and supports the mission of Student Success and The New School. The Assistant Director develops, implements and manages all aspects of international student engagement initiatives and assists in campus-wide internationalization. Additionally, the position oversees the department’s communication & marketing strategies, as well as staff training related to international student engagement. This is a full-time position. Evening and weekend hours are required multiple times throughout the year. The primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Serves as a member of the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) leadership team and assists in the development, implementation, support, and assessment of the ISSS mission.
Manages the development, implementation, and assessment of international student engagement opportunities that facilitate student transition and engagement.
Builds strategic partnerships with campus stakeholders to collaborate on internationalizing engagement initiatives across the university.
Manages the international student advisory committee focused on student engagement and well-being.
Collaborates with the ISSS Applications Team on pre-arrival resources and online programming.
Oversees engagement communications in collaboration with campus partners, including promotional materials, educational information, etc.
Manages educational training and workshops related to international student engagement and campus internationalization.
Assists in the development and management of the department’s engagement budget, totaling approximately $89K annually while maintaining compliance with university procurement policies and procedures.
Serves on campus committees related to student engagement and campus-wide internationalization.
Serves as a liaison for The New School community and acts as a referral resource for faculty, staff, students, parents, and families.
Engages in required occasional evening and weekend work.
Other duties as assigned.
Masters degree or equivalent work experience related to the position.
Three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in relevant areas, such as international student services, student development, student activities, etc.
An understanding of student development and the International Student and Scholar Services field.
Experience planning and implementing engagement opportunities.
Demonstrated knowledge of campus-wide internationalization.
Experience building collaborative partnerships with faculty, administrators, students, parents, and community partners.
Multicultural competence and a demonstrated commitment to diversity in all forms.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple collaborative projects and systems in a fast-paced environment.
