Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an International Faculty/Scholar Services Advisor for the Office of International Student and Scholar Services. This position reports to the Associate Director for Faculty and Scholar Services. The International Faculty and Scholar Adviser shares responsibility in the preparation and filing of O-1, E3, H-1B and permanent residence petitions and also assists with administering Rutgers University’s Exchange Visitor Program as needed. The International Faculty and Scholar Adviser confers with and advises academic and research units on visa sponsorship regulations, policies and procedures and supports the Associate Director for Faculty and Scholar Services in other responsibilities related to the legal employment of foreign nationals at Rutgers.
Among the key duties of this position are the following: • Coordinates administrative processing and record-keeping related to O-1, E3, H-1B faculty and scholars and permanent resident visa petitions • Advises and provides assistance and guidance to individual faculty and scholars on O-1, E3, H-1B and those seeking permanent residence status, on matters pertaining to their legal status and their adjustment in the United States. • Prepares and files O-1, E3, H-1B and permanent residence petitions. • Assists with the issuance of J-1 documents for J-1 faculty, researchers and non-degree research students as needed
• Ability to applying a body of specialized knowledge specific to the job in which experience was gained, exercising critical thinking skills to solve problems, and some customer or client service work. • Candidate must respect and exercise full confidentiality as appropriate.
• Experience with and/or a working knowledge of federal regulations governing PERM filing, E3, H-1B and O-1 petitions, J-1 and with SEVIS; • Master’s degree or some graduate study; • Degree in social sciences, foreign languages or other field directly related to working with international scholars; • Paralegal experience in immigration law • Employment experience in a college or university environment; • Experience working with sunapsis and/or other batch SEVIS program
• To comply with federal law in performing necessary duties pertaining to J-1 matters, the incumbent must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident for certification as an “Alternate Responsible Officer" with the U.S. Department of State.
